Default I made a 8:45am flight on Nov 27 out of FLL

We took our own suitcases off the ship at 7:30 made it through customs by 7:45 jumped in a cab and was checking in at the airport at 8am.
I probably will not cut it so close next time but the price was double to take a later flight

You did great!

I like to do things the easy way, so I would not cut it so close.

That no doubt is the exception not the rule. Everything fell into place for you so you got really lucky. Next time you book a flight that early make sure you dont have to pay any rebooking fees or flight change fees because there will be a very good chance you wouldnt make a flight that early ever again. Give you the cajones for booking a flight before 9 and making it though!!

Wow - I was nervous about our 10:10 flight! You're brave I agree though, we made it so early, I could have made a 8:45 flight but I don't think my nerves could have taken it !

Not the way I want to start my Sunday morning. Prefer a relaxing time on deck and enjoying my last couple of hours.

I think Ft. Lauderdale and SanDiego are the only ports that this could possibly work.

But any blip in the disembarkation proceedings could ruin the plans very easily. These days more airplanes are flying full, so I don't know if I'd risk missing my flight... though it could cause you to have to stay in Florida an extra day, which could be a good thing

HAd a very late flight (745PM) out of FLL last week after a 5-day out of Miami. Off ship at 7:30, in SAS transport van at 7:50, at FLL by 8:30, the fine folks at Jet Blue had seats available for the noon flight to Boston, easy transfer. On my couch by 4PM, instead of midnight. Sweet!

I would feel very comfortable with that flight time. The odds of the ship delaying disembarkation by four hours are almost nil. I won't say it can't happen but I'd put money on you making your flight.

Take care,
Mike

Yes, indeed...I would not try that with Miami.....

IT is a good thing there was no fog or another event to delay debark.

We just got off the Destiny and DJ was literally the first person off the ship with VIP Debark....

We were off the ship by 7:15 and in the van moving by 7:40. The only delay was that we were in line for Customs BEFORE The Customs agents got there and had to way 10 minutes for them....

This is something that worries me as a firt-time cruiser. Our flight leaves FLL at 10:35 am on March 5. I'd like to get ideas from veteran cruisers as to what we should do to make that flight time work? Many thanks in advance!

Hi JC,
That does seem a bit early. What port are you flying out of and what ship?

You're lucky the port is Ft. Lauderdale. If you don't have too much luggage, I suggest you do self assist (where you carry ALL your luggage off the ship with you). Those guests are first off.

If you need assistance with your luggage, take your air tickets to the Guest Relations desk, and they will make certain you're in the first group off, once self assist is complete.

The airport is only 5 -10 minutes from the port.

Also be sure to just grab a cab and go to the airport, don't wait for the cruiseline's shuttle, that will take more time.

Lauderdale is great as a embarkation/debarkation port. The airport is small and uncrowded, it's so close to the cruise terminal you could literally almost walk there, and even the cruise terminals are much more manageable then the ones in Miami are. My first time in to Lauderdale we booked a 2pm flight out and we were at the airport well before 10AM (and this is after we lazed around the ship and port terminal for a couple of hours that morning). We were lucky enough to get seats on an earlier flight and were home by 2 instead of just taking off.

While the schedule mentioned above doesn't allow for any snags or delays it is easily doable on a regular basis. In fact I would could say that 9 out of 10 times a passenger who chooses self debarkation will make this schedule with time to spare in Lauderdale. Miami, New York, or LA on the other hand I wouldn't even think about trying to do this.
