Is the beach walking distance from the port?
I thought I heard that there is a buffet near the beach that is supplied with food from the cruise. Is this true and if so, is there a charge or is it free?
You must take a short tender ride from the ship to the island. Hop off the tender and there is a small shopping area and the beautiful beach is right there as well.
Yes! The do a very decent buffet lunch, free of charge. It was excellent. The island is mostly undeveloped and we did not venture far but because it is owned by Carnival, it is just like being on the ship. You can use your sail/sign card for purchases and sure enough, the Carnival folks are asking you every other minute, right on the beach, if you want to buy a tasty adult beverage.
There are cabanas you can rent there as well as clams shells...back in 05 we rented the Orange cabana..we split the cost with our friends, which was nice....this cabana was well located near the food pavillion, and rest rooms...the cost has shot way up since then...
I will have to say, the day we were there, the buffet was lacking some of the menu items, and, it was really, just so so....but as I said, this was several years ago..
This beach is a slice of Paradise...like a picture postcard...

Is the beach walking distance from the port? The beach is right beside the tender area . Since it is private there are no vendors except what Carnival or HAL have approved .
I thought I heard that there is a buffet near the beach that is supplied with food from the cruise. Is this true and if so, is there a charge or is it free? The food is free. The alcoholic drinks (ie beer) have to be paid for .
Thanks in advance,
Mike
I recommend to rent a cabana . You can have a total of 4 people per cabana.

I love Half Moon Cay. I have rented Cabana #8 (close to both food and washrooms) twice. It is far enough down the beach to be fairly quiet and away from the crowds and families. The walk to the Island BBQ was around two or three minutes in sand, would have been less if it was a gravel path, but the sand is harder to walk in.
The beach is accessible right from the Welcome Center or a short walk past the Rum Runner bar, past the Bahamian church, and a hang a left to be at the stairs next to the I wish bar.
Cabanas--I recommend renting one, they are $225, but split four ways it is fair. Everything you'll want will be there and you are guanrateed to be FIRST off the ship ad not having to wait for tenders!

We went in Feb 2011. Absolutely beautiful. But be sure to were your sandals if you are going to explore off the path. we did not and found these very sharp prickers on the ground. OUCH!
Our oldest son was just there with 20 of his college friends.....they had an amazing time.
It was his 23rd Carnival cruise, but the first one without Mom and Dad. It was cool watching someone else have to take care of the paperwork...
Anyway, they had a blast at the new Pirate Ship. It wasn't finished when we were there in November. I believe he said it was 3 stories...
He said it was cool....and if nothing else ... MORE SHADE..which I LOVE!!
