Pins are now only given to Platinum cruisers.
They are supposed to be available in the gift shop.

Did the OP ever come back to defend their "predictions" ?

HUH!

Pins only given to platinum cruisers now! First I heard of that. Oh well, not a big deal anyway. When I was on the Miracle in November there was a guy wearing a hat with a stupid number of pins in it. 50+ I think? Over 70 maybe? Dunno. "Malcolm" pulled him up on stage one day though. He said he started cruise in 2003 :o

Since it is still the first week in Jan....We have some cruisers out there that haven't finished their cruise to report back. I would hope we'd hear if this is true or not shortly...I hope its not as bad as it sounds like it could be.

Only to Platinum. It has been like that for a while.

The stupid number of pins hat would be Dennis.

Dennis! ! I guess you have have heard of him. Do they call him "Pin Head" I wonder? !

I wouldn't mind being on that many cruises, but I think I would worry about doing damage to my neck wearing that hat!

Default Pins

We missed getting Nancy a pin on our Thanksgiving cruise on Elation. I couldn't even sweet talk the Customer Service desk into giving us one. So, there was nothing else we could do but book another Elation cruise next month (February) when Nancy will be a platinum cruiser and, hopefully, qualify for an Elation pin. Ha!!! A poor excuse is better than no excuse at all.

Then, we will be missing only the Holiday pin among our Carnival cruise ships.

I've seen some really good rates for the Elation. $199 base for a five day is very good.

Default Multi pins

On our Dream transatlantic cruise we met a guy with 37 pins on his vest--when we commented on it he told us he had only started cruising one year before! He was planning on leaving ship in New York and boarding another 2 days later. When I think about it, apartments with food (assisted living) are about $6,000-$7,000 a month in CT. It would be cheaper (and a heck of a lot more fun) to cruise as long as your health is OK.

I threw out my first 4 pins, I had to buy "button" type pins with the ship's names on Ebay. My hat has only 14 pins so far-----but it's a pain going through the airport scanner!!

Hopefully, you booked the 5 day not the 4 day Elation. Only cruises 5 days and longer give you the pin.

btw as far as the bad rumor about the cabin stewards .. this even went to John the Blogger who said it was "bunk" (his word was worse)

As far as the ship pins sold in the ship stores, they are a bit larger, so you can easily tell they arent the ones you get for loyalty. I didnt want one of the bigger ship pins I saw in the stores, just the little ones.

Funny you mention the costs as that very point was mentioned when they brought "Dennis" up on stage when we were on Miracle in November. Basically they said, "Look at the incentives for booking your next cruise, while on THIS cruise, and repeat." I don't doubt for one minute there are some places with living costs so high that once you retire, it might be worth looking at the costs of cruising for the rest of your life. They also said exactly that.

...and February seems to be a good month for reasonable prices on Elation's Western Caribbean five-day cruises. How about $1727 for a Grand Suite (55+ reduction)?

We would probably never spring for a suite on a larger Carnival ship that offers balconies but the oceanview cabins on the Fantasy-class ships can be a little restrictive when you are used to opening the door and stepping out into fresh air and an unobstructed view of the ocean.

I have been on a few cruises where Dennis was on the ship. He is a little different. There are a number of characters who frequently cruise Carnival. If you cruise enough, you start to figure out who they are.

I know a couple of sisters who contacted Carnival about doing extended B2Bs. They were told they could get discounts if they did enough in a row .. so there are discounts if you stay on the ship long enough.. you wouldnt pay full price. I talked to them in person, so I know them personally, and am sure they wouldnt make it up... so Dennis probably is paying a reduced fare.

the worst streak has been pretty darn good so far !
Maybe they need to make the "free" streak tough, so we will pay for the better one ?

So, how are those changes, coming.

We've done weeks on b2b (sometimes b2b2b) on Carnival without any special discounts just for length of cruises, but then maybe our price was already bargain basement. We have another one (21 days) b2b on the inaugural Carnival Magic cruises.

They were talking about cruising on Carnival for about 3 months when one retires later this year. I suspect they have had second thoughts about cruising this long in a row.

I personally am not that big of a Carnival fan, I would get tired of the same shows and meals after a while. They were going out of FL and changing ships a few times when they were told they could get a discount cruising that long.

I think 28 days was the most we did. I never get tired of the food and have yet to try everything. I also never get tired of being pampered.

I don't think I'd want 3 months on the same ship if it was doing the same ports over and over. Now a Western, Eastern, Southern Caribbean, followed by a trip around South American and then maybe over to Hawaii and possible Alaska could take up 3 months and would be a helluva cruise for me!

The trivia prizes have always been cheap and few. Basically just a ship on a stick.

Drink prices have gone up on all lines. I love it when someone posts that drink prices for the DOD are $2.50 - $3.50. These people haven't cruised for a while or don't buy drinks.

Take care,
Mike

We won trivia and I wanted a ship on a stick. One day of the sports trivia. We got a medal. Yippee!!! (not). I only have one stick on a ship, and would have loved a 2nd one.

We are back from our 2 cruises on the Valor and Imagination. Asked on both cruises if any changes were comming. Crew knows nothing about any changes. So put it on the rumor list. Did get a leather note pad book 4x5 in with pen, both with the carnival logo for Platinum gift on the Valor. Got a 12x12X12 blue cooler with red Carnival logo for platinum gift on the Imagination.

Valor had a deal if you went over 1500 points on the slots you got free drinks for the rest of the cruise while playing the slots, got that the first monday. Hit 2500 points and get a card for a friend for the rest of the cruise, hit that tuesday, we got alot of free drinks the rest of the cruise. at $8.95 a drink was alot of money we didn't have to spend. The players club is great, got alot of perks from them. Now if carnival would do that for milestone that would be wounderful. That 25% for your 25th cruise is a pay for your cruise and then giveback the 25% to carnival and then from there on its nothing. Not that great a deal as it looks.

As far as drink prices even when you go to TGIF's or Chilli's your paying $8.00 - $9.00 a drink so drink prices don't bother me. I also don't drink very much.

I was on Conquest with folks who heard of the 1500 pts deal .. and nadda. They got their 1500 points and asked. They were told its still on select ships to see how it works out. Evidently Conquest is not one of the ships.

Default Just off Elation and saw no real changes

There are still chocolates/mints and towel animals every night, no charges for food offered in the main dining rooms, rooms still attended to twice daily, still with sushi offered, still had live bands, individual performers, the Calypso music still out on deck, Lido deck party still occuring, and to top all that they have just spent a great deal on putting two new dinner shows together (which were great). I was grateful to see that nothing drastic had changed..as a matter of fact Carnival is apparently putting comedy clubs on their ships (Dream was the first to do this type multi-comedy shows on multiple nights of the cruise). Elation had 2 nights of family and adult type shows offered at multiple times and by 2 different comedians in the same night. Of course, some of the shows were repeats so all could see the shows. We love the comedy club offerings! Some things may have changed behind the scenes that the average cruiser may not be aware of but overall Carnival is great as ever!

Default Left one thing out of previous post..

There was one change that occured on our cruise we just got home from today. The Platinum member gift was only a soft drink coupon set good for 4 free soft drinks..no pic frame this time. Not sure if this just occured with us or other passengers got the same thing (did not ask any other passengers on our ship).

I try to carry something from a prior cruise on each new cruise, from a different cruise line if possible. My sister questioned the photos from our last cruise because she knew we were on Princess but I had on a Carnival sweatshirt in the "welcome aboard" picture. Glenda and Bob's Cruise Page
This thread got me to thinking about pins and I just found a Nordic Empress pin on eBay! I'm glad I've been following this thread! Thanks, guys. This will go straight to the strap of my camera.
