We are booked on a B2B cruise in Oct on the dream. In the past my wife and I have always booked a standard balcony but this being our 20 ann, I decided to surprise her with a suite for 2 weeks.
Can anyone tell me if the difference in price is worth it. The information doesn't really tell SQ of each. For the 2 weeks it was $1900.00 more than it would be with a standard balcony cabin.

PS Also booked on the Spirit out of San Diego for Feb 20th. 2 more months.
I have had both several times, and to me it is not worth the extra cash, except to be able to say you have done it.
You will have more room, and with the just the two of you, much more room. You will be able to board the ship in one of the first groups. The balcony might be bigger, but other than that, not much else.
We had a suite on the Spirit, so if that cruise is only 5 or 7 days, why not book the suite on that ship, instead of your B2B.
Suites on Carnival are nice. You will receive priority embarkation and a larger room with nicer furnishings and a nice bathroom. The bad part is: That's about all you get for the extra money.
Unlike other lines Carnival doesn't do much in the way of full suite amenities. You get the nicer cabin and that's it.
If you want more room and a nicer looking cabin then go for it but don't expect butlers, special menus or dining venues, special treats, cocktail parties, daily canapés or other amenities that are on other lines.

We would like a better cabin but they are SO much more!! I notice on another site people seem to think that anyone who prefers a nicer grade of cabin is a snob, even though they actually state they spend little time in their cabin themselves. The old thing about more cruises in cheaper cabin-V-less cruises in more expensive....we are leaning towards the latter to be honest!! We like nice things....so what?

Depends how you define, "so much more". The cruise that we are leaving on this next Sun, we up graded from a balcony stateroom to a OS suite and it was $255.00 more for the two of us. That comes out to $51.00 per day. Not so bad when I look what I sometime drop in the casino.
Another thing I look at is I see people rushing to get Platium Status so they can get the VIP treatment but with upgrading to a suite, you are VIP status and not have 10 cruises with CCL.
Just got off this Spirit this morning and we were glad we decided to go with the suite. I just don't like being in close quarters and the suite was larger then the standard belcony stateroom. One thing that I liked was the double sinks in the bathroom so didn't have to wait for the wife when getting ready. She liked the dressing area as well.
Was told that the suites are even larger on the Dream which we will be sailing in Oct.
On another topic, why have rules for the MDR, when they are NOT enforced.
If I were you, instead of getting a suite and surprising your wife that way, you should get a cat. 9A room with the wrap around balcony.
We always book this...the balconies are INCREDIBLE. We just got back from a trip on the Valor. The seas were smooth and the weather was perfect. We used our balcony all the time. It was quiet and spacious and we never had to vie for deck chairs. It came with 3 regular chairs and two loungers.
My favorite rooms are the two corner rooms on the sixth floor. You get views of the back, corner and side of the ship. The room is also layed out better than those of the 7th and 8th decks. It is just as spacious as a suite but with out the price and you BY FAR get the best balcony on the ship.
We watched the ship sail from our balcony and welcomed each port from our balcony. At night it is just magical....listening to the waves and looking up in the sky at the stars and the moon. Your wife will LOVE it. You can tell I am partial to these particular rooms....I'd never book anything else now!
We just got back on Feb. 27th. We paid $2100 for two of us. It was a great price for what we got!!!! Other cruise lines charge that much for two people in an inside stateroom.

I am the same as you. Even though there are not a lot of amenities with a Carnival suite I like to have the extra room. You do get more for your money on other lines but the Carnival suites are nice cabins. When I cruised with my daughter on the Pride it made things so much easier with the separate dressing area where we each could dress in private and she could do her makeup.
People spend more time in their cabin then they believe. If you add up the time you are in the cabin it will add up to over twelve hours (for most people). I would prefer to spend those twelve hours in comfort and not feel cramped.
The dress code thing is something that has been debated for years and no one has come up with a solution. Until the cruise lines enforce it we can only complain.
