Cabins that are next to elevators/noise?
I just booked Elation for Jan 10. Cabin E 299 was available and I was advised not to take it because you can hear people in the elevator if they are loud/rowdy and you can feel the vibration from the elevator also. Can anyone tell me if this is the case? I want to know for future cruises. I prefer to be at the upper end of a hallway near the elevators but dont want an excessive noise level either. Thanks in advance!

I have never heard noise or vibration from the elevator itself.
Passengers yes and alcohol is usually involved.

The only elevator noise we've ever experienced, was the people standing, waiting for the elevator to arrive. Sometimes they get noisy, and if your cabin is near that area, you WILL hear them. I've had cabins right next to the elevators, and never heard any mechanical noise, or felt any vibration. Oh yea,,,you'll hear the "ding - ding" all night as well.

I always choose a cabin a few doors down from the elevators, and have never had an issue..Walking down that long corridor in heels is a killer;)

On Grandeur OTS, we had a cabin right beside the elvator .... no problems/noises. You always hear the people in the hallways regardless of where you are. I never heard the ding/ding from the elevator.

I choose near a elevator and have even backed up to them and no vibration of noise and usually the door to the cabin is turned the other direction from where you enter the elevators .. but I have heard a drunk getting off the elevator once.

Sometimes I hear the ding, but not since we started taking a sound machine.

For whatever reason, some people think it is ok to stand near the elevators and SHOUT down the hall to whoever, to whatever. This can disturb everyone, but is more annoying nearing to the source.

On our last cruise (Carnival Miracle) I noticed that none of the elevators did the "DING" at all! I don't know if they have turned the "ding" down, or if all of 'em were broken? It was a bit annoying to miss the elevator you were waiting for because you were facing the other way and didn't know that the elevator had arrived? It did, however, probably make it much nicer for the people who had cabins near the elevators.

I never had a problem being close to elevators .

We have always avoided staterooms near the elevators but we have never seen real input from cruisers who have experienced the situation first hand. Thanks for the advice.

Thank all of you for your input! I know when I come here I can count on others to pass on their experiences and it makes it easier for the rest of us to make decisions.
