Inside Staterooms Smell of Smoke?
We're soon going to be booked on the Imagination for April 11-15 out of Miami, and we will be getting an inside cabin.. I recently quit smoking and the smell of cigarette smoke drives me crazy now.. lol.. I've been thinking about the Inside cabins and their previous occupants..and wonder if the room will reek of smoke? Will the Steward spray freshener if I ask him/her to?

That's an interesting question mosiegirl. First, it's been a long time since I've had an inside cabin, but I would imagine that inside cabins would be harder to get rid of smoke smell than balcony cabins where you can leave the door open while you clean.
However, I do remember once, in a balcony cabin, smelling smoke as soon as we entered, and I HATE it, and am also allergic to it, so we asked our room steward to do something about it.
I'm not sure what he did, but when we came back later, the smell was gone, and was not replaced with anything perfumey either, because I am allergic to that too! It just smelled fresh.

Congratulations on quitting smoking, and enjoy your cruise on Imagination - we enjoyed a very Happy New Years cruise on her a few years back!

We almost always book inside cabins, and after many many cabins, I can truthfully say that we've NEVER had one that smelled of smoke. Both the lovely Mrs. Jones (Vita) and I are former smokers, and trust me,,,,we'd have noticed. Take your air freshener to give you that warm and fuzzy feeling, but I can almost assure you, that you won't need it!
Have a GREAT cruise.

Do they ALLOW smoking in cabins on that ship? I thought that was way in the past these days, having said this you do get a "whiff" wallking along corridors sometimes.

My hubby is a 3 yr nonsmoker, and can smell it in a heartbeart. We have yet to walk into a cabin that had any lingering odor. I believe there are specific steps taken when that is the case..they do thier job very well!

I have to agree with everyone here. I only book inside cabins and have a very sensitive nose. I've never smelled smoke at all.

Don't worry about it, and have a wonderful cruise!

And yes, your cabin steward will do a refresh of the cabin if you do notice any odors.

Carnival allows smoking in all cabins except the Spa cabins on the Dream and Splendor (and soon to be Magic)....

this is not to be confused with a cabin that just happens to be on the Spa Deck of any of the other ships.

The bad news is that it can happen.

The good news is that in 40+ cruises, we have only experienced this about 3 times.

All 3 times were in an interior cabin.

You need to know what the cabin steward can do.
They can go as extensive as they need to...even replacing all the mattresses, washing the walls and cleaning the carpet. They can also run an ozone machine in the cabin, but you can not be in the cabin when they are doing this.

I also always carry a bottle of Ozium (Walmart car section) with me. It helps more than sprays like Febreze.

While the good news is that it has not happened to us much, the not so good news is that all three times were in the past year or so....

so I fear that it is an issue that is getting worse for some reason???

FYI, RCCL does not allow smoking in the cabins...just on the balconies.
Celebrity and Azamara do not allow smoking in the cabins (not sure about balconies)
Oceania does not allow smoking in the cabins or on the balconies.

Regardless of all that, enjoy the Imagination. I sailed on her back in November and had a blast. I don't know if they've moved yet or not, but look for Mureal(sp) and Rexce as bartenders. They were working the bar just outside of the casino when I was on my cruise. Great personalities and occasionally generous pours.
