DH received Carnival vouchers as a sales incentive. Currently trying to decide whether to book Conquest Western Caribbean or Triumph.
Live outside Houston, so Conquest makes more sense, but he and son are scuba divers so Triumph's Belize/Roatan/Cozumel itinerary would give them more chances to dive.
Is it worth the drive to New Orleans for the Triumph? We're probably going to go during the summer when DS is out of school. For what it's worth, this is our first cruise.
Good question!
We have been on both ships and here is our opinion.
Strictly going by the ships, I would give the nod to Conquest. The Conquest had her maiden voyage in 2002 so she is a bit newer than the Triumph. She is also a slightly bigger ship. Add to that the fact that the Conquest has a Mongolian Grill (fantastic) and also the best fish and chips at sea in the Sur Mer restaurant...I say you can't go wrong.
For location, New Orleans is worth the drive. We had a great time before the cruise exploring the French Quarter, gambling at Harrah's casino, and enjoying late night beignets at Cafe Du Monde.
A tough decision for you to make. Hopefully some of this information will help. Either way, you are in a for a wonderful vacation. What type room are you going to get? Window or Balcony?

Depends what's most important to you. If I were to choose based on ship preference and proximity of port to home (your home not mine lol), I would vote for the Conquest. Triumph is not really my favorite ship but it's OK.
Now based on port choice and Itinerary I would vote for New Orleans.
We cruise out of New Orleans a lot and it is just easy, not terribly expensive and about an 11 hour drive from our home. We love the food and music in New Orleans and keep going back again and again.
Now if you want the best of both worlds so you can enjoy a larger newer Conquest and sail out of New Orleans to the good scuba ports of Belize, Roatan and Cozumel if you can wait until Nov. 13th for a 7 day, or Dec. 24th for an 8 day that has those three ports and Progreso as well.
If you need the name of some good dive shops in Belize and Roatan holler, will be more than glad to share the ones I have dove with.
I vote for New Orleans. The ships are going to switch ports later this year so if you want one ship over the other you can wait a little while.
Lately there have some issues with Belize, but they should be resolved quickly and if you cruise in the summer there is always the chance of a hurricane. They can always cloud the water up from a long way away.
There is very good diving in Grand Cayman which Conquest goes to. So you have that and Cozumel for drift diving. Two good diving ports.

Conquest is coming to New Orleans and Triumph is going to Galveston in the fall...if my info is correct...if that helps any.
