Carnival Splendor "Update"

sort of.

On January 21, Carnival Splendor departed San Diego where it had been docked while undergoing repairs. From there, the ship sailed to San Francisco to a drydock facility where the remainder of the repairs are being completed. Work is continuing on schedule and the ship is expected to re-enter service on February 20, 2011, as previously announced.

John said he had some amazing photos of the damage etc that he won't share until after she is back in service, and probably when CCL legal tells him he can.

Is there any indication of a formal investigation by the feds that might yield a detailed report eventually?

The Feds have no jurisdiction.

Panama is in charge of the investigation, but they are allowing NTSB and Coast Guard to participate.

I would expect a year or more.

The Splendor is here in San Francisco, at pier #70 and its being worked on around the clock. When they are finished it will be better than new.

Can't wait to see if there are any changes. Sailed in May of last year and am booked in Jan of 2012

NTSB & USCG are what I was thinking as "the Feds".

Ok. They are not responsible for the investigation, so I don't know that they ever will release an official report, but are assisting.

I was surprised yesterday at the Carnival website to find that the Splendor's first Mexican Riviera trip listed for booking is the Feb 27th cruise. They've been stating in the media that the Splendor will resume cruises on Feb 20.

Is that initial trip fully booked? Is Carnival creating some wiggle room for last-minute delays? Is the Feb 20th cruise still on?

They had info posted for the 20th when I checked a few days ago. Looks like they have taken that down and are showing the 27th as the first available sailing date.

Sea Trials supposed to begin Feb 14th and yes, there is a big soiree for travel agents on Feb 19th.

Definitely good news. I would love to see pictures of the damage and repair work. Just wonder if they would ever get posted somewhere.
