We did the one out of Tampa on the Inspiration and enjoyed it very much. The only thing I don't like is the Tampa port. It seems like the ships on time rating is not the best. I vote Miami.

Only been on the Destiny but have been to all the ports. And really don't think you can go wrong with either. The thing about on time at Tampa has to do with the channel being narrow and a long way to the Gulf and if there is heavy fog the channel will get closed or if the wind is too strong it will be closed to all ship traffic. Miami has a very short trip from the dock to the ocean so they don't have that problem.

If you have to fly I would check to see what times and costs for both Miami and Tampa and take that into consideration as to which cruise.

I would choose the Inspiration from Tampa..This cruise does not take you to Jamaica, and I think that's a good thing...

Grand Cayman has Stringray City, a great take in....you can go to Hell, the turtle farm, and shop in town.

Cozumel has great water sport options..a jeep tour around the island, fun shopping, and, Carlos n Charlie's ..the infamous watering hole!

Destiny is the newer design of the 2 ships. Destiny was the first of today's "all balcony" ships. Inspiration is built in the old style of all windows.

I very much like the itinerary better out of Tampa. You can keep Jamaica mon.

Default Go with Tampa

The Desitiny has had propulsion problems for over a year. Will it be fixed by then Who knows. They have changed itinerarys now and then. Look at member reviews. I would sail Inspiration. Ed

Funny about Jamaica. It seems people either hate it or love it. I've been there several times and have always enjoyed it. I've read the articles about the hate crimes and murders, but that goes on right here in my own country every day. Yes, they're a tad-bit aggressive in trying to sell you their goods, but I just walk away and carry on.

Now I will admit I got screwed on tipping twice in November. In years' past, they had single cab drivers that lined up to take you to and fro, and this past November all I noted was a line-up of vans and in my van was the driver and a separate tour guide so I ended up having to tip twice for the same ride. That won't be happening again I can assure you. I was quite irritated when I realized this. This was the case to and fro so I double tipped. They will rake ya given the opportunity so you do have to stay on your toes...

Now if you're going for the shopping, then choose the Cozumel itinerary for sure. I always do the most shopping in Cozumel than any other port in an itinerary that includes Cozumel but honestly, if I were choosing those two itineraries myself, I'd be choosing Miami. I've already sailed on the Inspiration, although a completely different intinerary for a 7-day way back when.

I'd do "Inspiration" out of Tampa. We've done this cruise several times, and NEVER have had a problem with the fog, or weather. I agree about Jamaica. I can live very nicely without that port. "Inspiration" is an older ship, but very nice, with an outstanding crew, excellent entertainment, and superior food. Tampa airport, and the port of Tampa are MUCH easier to navigate than Miami/Ft. Lauderdale IMO. Yep,,,,"Inspiration" is my pick.

A "tad-bit aggressive?" When a merchant shoves a cheap 'made in China' "souvnier" into my chest and then lets go of it so I have to catch it, that is not a "tad" anything. Then he won't take it back. I've had that happen until I put my hand palm up, opened my hand, stared him right in the eye and slowly turned my hand over, allowing his cheap junk to fall on the ground. A few stalls later, another merchant tried the shove against chest trick, this time I made no attempt to catch the junk and let it fall.
I can only imagine how unpleasant this is for someone not as large or experienced as I am.
You like Jamaica? Its all yours!

And that's not even considering the ARMY of 'ganga' salesmen stopping you every 5 feet.

Yeah, I do, and as I have stated, *I* have had many fond memories of Jamaica in years' past. Had a great time on our river tubing tour this past November and the most enjoyable tour out of all 3 islands. Cozumel sucked this time but I will always go back. Different experiences with each visit. Speaking of Cozumel, I've had a few aggressive encounters there in the past as well along with other ports, but doesn't mean I'll quit visiting the islands.

Odd, I've been to Coz on a dozen and more cruises. NEVER had an aggressive encounter with a merchant or a street vendor. Whereas 99% of all encounters in Jamaica are marked by aggression AND rudeness.

The above mentioned "sales" tactic for one. Leaving Dunn's River falls is running a gauntlet of rude, aggressive merchants.
Climbing the falls, people are told they must have a 'guide.' Not so.
That you must hold on to the person in front of you and climb with the group. Not so.
And then you get the 'dope peddlers' which rumor has it that most of them are undercover cops. That's a wonderful tourist trap. But since I don't smoke weed, its bothersome but not worrisome.
I've had some beers and good conversations way up in the mountains with some 'real' people and they were fine, interesting, and enjoyable. But the nonsense that one has to wade through to get to real people is not worth the effort to me.

I think most would agree... all cruise ships have their good and bad points; but, being aboard any cruise ship is better than work!

Whatever cruise ship you choose, I know you'll have a ball =) Congratulations to you both =)

Lisa - what did you not like about the first cruise with your family? Maybe cruising isn't for you? Perhaps it's been a long time since your first cruise and so much has changed since that time? You might tell us why you did not appreciate the first cruise and we might be able to steer you better. However, as many have posted here, I don't think you can go wrong with either. Inspiration is a little older but it's been refurbished. Destination is a larger ship. Some people love Jamaica, some don't. Some people love Cayman, some don't. Some people love Cozumel, some don't. Me, I like them all because they are provide for a different experience. Your experience might hinder on your likes and dislikes but would be interested in knowing why you did not like your first cruise. Cruising isn't for everyone. But to me, it's the best vacation in the world! What an awesome gift for your husband - congratulations on your 30th!

Chris, I jest reread Lisa's post and I think it was Nassau and Freeport that she was not liking, and I have to say I don't blame her.

I was just confirming it was the actual ports she didn't like or the ship she was on. I couldn't tell 100%. There's so much to do in all of these islands if you're willing to get away from the hustle and bustle of the main downtown area. Take a nice boat tour of the islands, check out the hotels, casinos, scuba diving (if you like water sports), tour the island by cab/bus, etc. I agree, if you've been there numerous times it does get a little old, but you have to make the best out of wherever it is you're going.
