Carnival Splendor Returning to Service
After almost three and a half months of repairs, Carnival Splendor is about to return to service this Sunday - sailing out of Long Beach on seven-day cruises to the Mexican Riviera. I will be attending a news conference onboard the ship this Saturday for a complete update on what was done while the ship was docked in San Diego and in dry dock in San Francisco

How Far would you travel to cruise from Los Angeles?
I think the cruise lines really need to market these Mexico cruises better - Mariner is gone, Mazatlan has had a some bad publicity and this Splendor mishap turned off a lot of west coast cruisers who had never been on a cruise before.
Someone told me that Mariner attracted almost ALL Californians - it is a big state but you need to reach out to other states as well.
How far would you drive to take a Mexican Riviera cruise?
from Arizona, Utah, Oregon, Nevada, etc?

I was on the Splendor in October and flew out from Little Rock. I went with a cousin who lives in southern California. I would have gotten to the Riviera sooner or later, but having family out there helped make it sooner.
I'm still anxiously awaiting the final reports of the event from the Coast Guard, NTSB, and Panama since they have jurisdiction. And of course I'll be looking forward to what Paul learns at the news conference. I'm looking for as much technical detail of the event and the repairs they made. I will be able to discern much about the truth of the matter when I have the technical breakdown.
I am glad to see she will be back at sea..good news for west coasters.
For an east coaster like me, I would never fly to the west coast for 2 reasons.,.the fare, I can cruise from Fla, much more reasonably, and 2, it's too much Mexico..I like a bit more diversity among the ports I visit.

We were on the Splendor just a month before the engine fire and are looking forward to hearing about the repairs.
We have driven over to LA from the Phoenix area twice to sail on the Splendor. We love Mexico, but would like to do some other ports besides PV, Mazatlan and Cabo some time.
Glad to hear it's getting back into service. I, on the other hand would be glad if Carnival would quit giving me the run around and issue us our 'free cruise' since we were aboard the Splendor when it caught fire, or shall I say had "flameless smoke".

Living in San Diego and the number of cruise line that arrive here, we have taken the Mexican cruise several times, sometime at the last minute. 15 minutes from our house to the dock.
We have to fly across the country if we want to go to the Caribbean and other places. We have taken the Alaska cruise and that was out of Seattle. Have thought about taking a cruise out of Galveston but understand that we would have to fly to Houston then drive to the cruise ships.
As far as the Splendor goes, we took that one on Jan of 2010 out of Long Beach, nice but you have to like "pink". Even the handrails were pink.
