Default Magic or Conquest?

Wanting to book a cruise for April 2012, sailing out of New Orleans, LA. What's the better ship, Magic or Conquest? What features are different? Packages? Meals? Service? Any and all info, tips and opinions would be great!

Nobody has sailed the Magic yet so that question cannot be answered.

Voted for Conquest only because we have sailed her but won't sail Magic til November out of Galveston.

I take it you know Conquest will be in NOLA and Magic will be in Galveston.

The Conquest will be sorely missed here in SE Texas. She has been a great ship with an excellent crew for us.

I hope she stays that way while in NOLA.

Sure it can, my intuition tells me Magic is the better ship....

Conquest was great ship with great crew when we sailed her in Aug 2009. I'm thinking Magic will be better just for being newer with the latest bells and whistles and hopefully top notch crew. We'll find out this December.

A suggestion...

As no one can comment on Magic as it is not sailing yet, maybe the best comparision you could get right now, seeing as you are only asking about the ships itself, is ask if people prefer DREAM or Conquest. Magic will be essentially the same ship as Dream, but the decor will be a bit different I assume.

I voted for "Magic" only because she'll be brand new, and hopefully, better. Only time will tell whether that's true or not? A cruise on either ship will be excellent, IMO.

Between those two ships, only Conquest will be based in New Orleans. The other Carnival option out of New Orleans would be Ecstasy.

Personally, I'm looking forward to Conquest finally coming home to new Orleans.

Magic will have more bells and whistles and also be larger, but Conquest has a couple of features Magic won't.

1) Sur Mer (aka Fish n Chips)
2) a retractable roof over the aft pool for inclement weather (rain and/or cold).

I will be on the first two Magic sailings in a couple of months or so and will be posting lots of pictures.

I had the fish and chips on Freedom last month. Fish was, meh, but then again, I'm from Atlantic Canada. Same (shoestring) fries that they had out by the pool. At least they could have had steak fries with the fish was my opinion.

Since you said you were sailing from New Orleans....between the two, it will have to be the Conquest since the Magic is not sailing from New Orleans.

It is sailing from Galvestin ....

Steak fries go with steak. I rarely get the fish and chips. Usually the oysters which are kind of funny shaped and nothing like the great fried oysters you can get in New Orleans, but still quite edible and really oysters.

The bouillabaisse is quite tasty and next time I'm on a Conquest class ship, I must try the Ahi tuna and perhaps even the Ceviche.

Is price a factor? I suspect Conquest will be less expensive.

But ask again in a few months after I've tried Magic!

p.s. I'll be posting LOTS of pictures.

1.) Loaded Baked potato goes with Steak
2.) Price? What I had on Liberty was free.

Classic "Fish and Chips" to me is deep fried battered cod and thick cut English style french fries, which I thought you guys called steak fries

Then, you need to put dressing and gravy all over it. But that's a Newfoundland thing, I don't expect Carnival to understand that

1) ok, works for me
2) price of the cruise, i was speaking of. no fish'n'chips on Magic.
3) in England, french fries are chips. Potato chips in England are crisps!

There is no substitute for the real UK deal - the real classic - many try to imitate, none duplicate. Malt vinegar is the only real dressing and gravy, dagnabit. Real Louisiana Hot Sauce only enhances, IMHO. Perhaps a deep fried hot dog on the side.

! Price of the cruise DUH me!

Well, it's 8 in the morning, I just finished breakfast, now I'm hungry again!

I'm no expert on England for sure, but was just trying to explain home made fries, or chips. I use both words interchangably, maybe I shouldn't. WRT the malt vinegar, I figured that was already included in the mix.

To clarify though, the "Dressing" I refer to is a type of home made stuffing of sorts, unique in Canada only to the province of Newfoundland. It's essentially bread crumbs, a little diced onion, a little melted butter, and the magic ingredient, summer savory. We stuff our turkeys with it too, but anything you would have with fries, DRESSING, and gravy is awesome....With malt vinegar too of course

Enjoy Magic, I'm jelous, our next PLANNED cruise will be the fall of 2013 and looking like it will be Dream B2B. Already have all vacation days for 2011 and 2012 spoken for due to my bother's wedding this year, and us building a new house next year.

Have fun!
