VIP Question

Do you get VIP benefits on your 10th Carnival cruise or do you need to complete 10 cruises and get it on your 11th sailing?

You will get your goodies on your 10th cruise. Well worth it as you will see.

shipmate March 2nd, 2011 10:22 PM

That's good to hear, because my TA says it's on my 11th cruise. I didn't think she was right.

Thanks!!!

When you print your luggage tags and boarding pass, they should say "VIP" on 'em. If not, call your PVP, or agent, and have them check for VIP status. Welcome to the club, and I'll see you in the VIP lounge on embarkation. :p

"SKY"

I will definitely make sure my tags are correct and I don't want to miss out on all the perks. Just surprised that my TA didn't even know about this program. Funny, because of these boards, I felt that I knew more than she did. so I advised her to check into it. She contacted their booking rep and they told her it's the 11th cruise. Go Figure!

Went on the legend in Dec and this was my 10th cruise not 11th and we received all the benefits to include the special boarding which is in my opinion the best of all the benefits.

Don't want this to come out too wrong, but it sounds like you might want to be shopping for a better travel agent.

Because the TA does not just deal with Carnival.

The 10th. +

To be sure Carnival thinks you're on your 10th cruise. Go to the Carnival website and register. Then check your cruise history for the cruises Carnival credits you for. Once on board, it will be too late.

We just finished our 10th cruise on Carnival. We happened to book a suite at the same time so we would have gotten VIP treatment anyway.
But we got VIP check-in, early on the ship, personalized stationary, canapes one night and petit fours another night. I also got a ship pin, and a nice small folding insulated bag. The suite on Elation was very nice too. We could have scheduled a kitchen tour as part of our perks but decided not to as we had so much to do. We had VIP on our luggage tags.
I almost forgot. We decided to take advantage of the VIP self debarking at 7am. We live two hours from the port and was home by 9:30 am.

Yea, I usually just call our TA and tell her what cruise we want and I pick out the room ahead of time. All she does is book it and watches the prices for changes. But of all the cruises we've taken, we never received any price cuts or upgrades.

Not sure what I'm missing that others are getting from their TA.

shipmate March 6th, 2011 12:43 AM

Is there a list somewhere of all the perks you get as a VIP status?

DreadLockCruiser March 6th, 2011 09:15 AM

My favorite VIP perks are the fee wash and fold service and the $20 casino credit or either the blackjack or slot tournaments :-)

Contrary to what agents may say they really have little to do with the upgrade process. If an agent tells you that they always get an upgrade for their clients they are lying. The inventory management systems move people around to get cabins they can sell, as the sail date approaches, in order for the ship to sale at full capacity. Also, if you book a specific cabin number your chances for an upgrade are slim.

I would also never rely solely on your agent to watch for price drops. I have someone I consider a "good" agent but she is very busy and does not have the time to check everyone's bookings to see if the prices drop. It's up to you to monitor price reductions and if you see one then call your agent and have them get the new rate for you.

Take care,
Mike

Thank you very much DreadLockCruiser!! I see that you're about to cruise shortly. Have a great time!!!

If you happen to be going to St. Thomas, St. Maarten, send me a copy of the daily capers. I'd greatly appreciate it.

Bon voyage!

shipmate March 6th, 2011 08:12 PM

Thanks Mike.

I alway check the Carnival website every week to see if the price changes and then contact the agent immediately. You're right, my agent handles many other cruise lines and tries to monitor the changes, but a little help from me doesn't harm it at all. I know she means well and tries her best.

I use to book the Balcony guarantee and hoped for an upgrade to something special, but that never happened. So I've went to picking out my own room where I know it's something I want. You read where occasionally someone gets upgraded to a suite, but I think you have to be very lucky for that to happen. Luck is not my strong suit.
