I booked early saver, and great my cruise price dropped $300! I was excited, filled out the ES forms, and received an email that the claim was denied! For cruises of 6+ nights, early saver is only valid 5 months before the cruise (I'm at 9months).
I'm really hoping this rate stays (or drops even more) so I can get it when my cruise is closer
Cancel your cruise and rebook at the cheaper rate. Isn't that within the ES rules.

I agree - you should get the discount. Early Saver requires booking 5 months in advance. I don't anything about the price drop having to occur within the last 5 months.
You can do the shuffle. From Carinval.com
Quote:
A $50 service fee will be assessed per person for ship and/or sail date changes made prior to the final payment due date
change sail date twice and it costs $100 to save $300.

We are almost in the same boat (sorry about the pun!) as we booked/paid our cruise in full almost 4 mos in advance. We found out 1.5 mos ago the fare dropped $400. Our TA could not give us the money back and when she called Celebrity to see if they could give us a $400 on board credit, was denied, with nothing, zilch, rien, nada offered. Mind you, we are also booked on Celebrity over Thanksgiving and Xmas, all 3 cruises have Concierge cabins and we eat in specialty restaurants every night. We were so upset that we told TA to cancel our other two cruises and we pondering if we should cancel the upcoming one (4/16 on Century) as well. We would only get half the money back and were contemplating it seriously. When we finally decided to cancel, even losing half the money, we walked into TA office and low and behold, two reps from Celebrity were there. She had told her boss the story and they listened in. By the time all had walked out, we still had 3 cruises booked with Celebrity and we had a $400 on board credit waiting for our upcoming cruise. Pays to be at the right place, right time, with the right people!
Good luck to you on your cruises as well. Hope it works out as ours did!
So far I have not been burned, but friends have. When I book an 8N I'm never going to get it even if prices drop as there are usually only six cabins on the ship and they will sell out.

There is a miscommunication somewhere.
It doesn't matter if you book ES 18 months from the date of the cruise. When you book ES, from that date until 2 business days before your cruise leaves you are eligible for any price drop you are eligible for.
The 5 month rule with ES is that you can book ES any time up until 5 months prior to the crise date. It has nothing to do with the price drops.

Resubmit the form.

I'll try again today. I also emailed for a more detailed explanation of why it was denied
That doesn't sound right about ES either. We booked several cabins for Xmas 2011 cruise back in January 2011. Up to today, we've had 3 price adjustments due to prices being lowered thus far totaling around $300 for the cabin. We find the price drops ourselves and email the TA who takes care of submitting paperwork with Carnival and within a few days, we get told the results.
Let us know how it works out for you.

Thanks for the update and mea culpa. I can see how that happened to you. Used to be that the 8A's were the lead promotion rate and now with Dream class it's a 7. When you see a new lead rate your still thinking 8A.
I still say the ES rate is frustrating.
But I guess it has its place for those that are experienced and know exactly what they want with no possibility of changing.
The last time we used ES and the price dropped, our agent couldn't get in touch (my cell battery died and I didn't realize it). It was 2 says before sailing, so she made an executive decision and used it to upgrade us from super cheap to a balcony cabin. No complaints here!!!

Just another reason to use a TA instead of a corporate PVP.
I have the greatest PVP, who will fight to get me things and there have been times if she didnt work for Carnival I would have lost out. Other than I dont get OBC, she is the greatest and I would not give her up to save a little OBC.
I do see that a lot on here, people pushing TAs over booking direct.
I like Early Saver too. I like that you can take the price reduction (OBC after date) before final payment. Or, you can take an Up-Deck. There have been a few times that I've had multiple Up-Decks and OBC's on the same cruise booking.
Never had an issue with ES and getting with a reduced price or OBC after final payment. You have to be eligible for whatever rate you see and it has to be on carnival.com. There is no time restriction until 2 days before the cruise.
We have used early saver twice and each time there was a price drop in our category. We filed the price protection claim and within 3 days we were notified that our claim was accepted. Because we had not paid out in full, the price drop amount was deducted from our bill. If we had been paid out we would have received OBC. Early Saver isn't bad, you just have to be sure you send in the right category change in price.

I agree, I have never had a problem using a PVP and the only perk with a TA is we're to receive an OBC which remains to be seen. I will probably just use a PVP from now on.

I think that is BS. I didn't read that in the guarantee.
I do BS sometimes, but not about this.
If the price goes down for any Category and it matches your price, then you are eligible to move in to it with Early Saver. You have to be eligible for that rate ie; past guest, etc. Sometimes the Past Guest rate will have Upgrades. Like book 4A with upgrades (updeck) to 4E. You really have to keep a watch on it.

I agree with you. A TA is the best way to handle theses situations.
