Can anyone tell me about the Roatan port now. I was there once before but there really wasnt anything at the port that time. I have heard since that time that Carnival built its own place to port and there was a beach right there almost next to where the ship is docked. Is this correct? Or do you have to take the new chair lifts over to that beach? Just trying to make plans for our cruise in little over a week!

There is a beach at Mahogany Bay. You can either take the chair lift or walk. It's a "man-made" beach, this is a pic I took as we were coming back from an excursion to Maya Key:
Some of our friends went there, they said the water was murky, maybe from the ships coming in? There were 2 in port that day. Water was crystal clear where we were.
There is a new shopping area at the dock. The walk to the beach is a very short distance--if you had a good arm you could throw a rock to the beach from the shopping area and the walkway is paved so you should have no problem at all. Don't worry--have fun.
We honeymooned there last April and the beach wasn't a far walk. You have to walk past it to go on the excursion to the private part of the island anyhow. No worries..just bring water! It was hot!!! My husband ended up standing in the fountain to cool off!
Carnival spent $63 million dollars on this place and it is really great. Lot's of nice (expensive) shops. Every dollar you spend here bar, resturant, shop goes to Carnival. Everyone in the compound works for Carnival. What a great
money making idea. Two 1,100 foot piers so no tendering I love that. If you forget something on the ship you can get right back on grab it and get right back to your day. The ship is right there a stones throw from the beach.
The best snorkling is at the far end of the beach. The is a small pier with wooded ladders for going in and out but careful they can be slippery. The Carnival site says only the Valor is going there right now but it may not be updated. Here is the main site you can look at. Just click the link below and have a great cruise. Ed
We were there on the Crown Princess in March. Dress for the heat. The humidity was oppressive! The shops were first rate and the entire place was spotless. I enjoyed the chairlift even if it was probably slower than walking the pathway. Kudos to Carnival!

When we went it was spotless. The beach is not far, but it's not close either. Once you're about 5 minutes into the walk to the beach with the heat, you'll wish you took the chair lift.
We did an island tour and then hit the beach. The water was murky when we were there too. March 2010
