Our last Carnival cruise was 2009. We took some Diet Cokes in our checked luggage. I'm reading some things now that make me think that Carnival will only allow drinks to be brought on in carry-on luggage. Is this true? Will they really know if we put a 6 pack of Diet Cokes in our checked bags?

yes they have changed the policy. Now you can bring on 12 non alcoholic beverages per person in carry on only.
The liquids somehow sho up on the xray machine and your luggage will be put in the naughty room and you will be called down to claim it minus the sodas.
That's if it's locked. If not they just take it and put a note in your suitcase .
Why is this such a big deal? What am I missing?
You are on vacation and have spent a lot of money to get there. Some over priced water or drinks just seems like such a minor expence. And what about the drink card?

I didn't say it was a big deal. My husband likes to have one Diet Coke with breakfast each morning. He is not a coffee drinker. The limit of 12 per person seems well within reason to me. We won't take anywhere near that many. I just didn't want to put it in our checked bags and have something happen to it. Yes, we paid money to get there (well within our means), but a drink card is not worth it for one soft drink per day. We are all fine with tea and lemonade the rest of the time.
Thank you for the replies.

The big deal is money. If you bring diet coke onboard they can't sell you diet coke. In my opinion.

That is exactly what their reasoning is, I'm sure.
I'll just pack mine in my carry-on.
