Default Early Saver deposit transferable or not?

Here's what Carnival's website says:

"• Does Early Saver follow Carnival’s standard deposit, payment and cancellation terms?
The deposit and payment terms are the same. However, Early Saver reservations require a full non-refundable deposit per person.

• What if I need to make changes to my ship or sailing date?
Ship and sailing date changes are allowed prior to the final payment due date, subject to a $50 service fee per person, per change. Changes made after the final payment due date are subject to standard cancellation penalties."

Somewhere I got the idea that deposits weren't transferable .

We found another cruise we'd like to do this fall and then sail Carnival next spring. Has anyone here transfered an Early Saver deposit?

Thanks,

I've never booked Early Saver, but from your quote, it certainly sounds like you can change your ship and sailing date, as long as you stick with Carnival (it'll cost you the $50).... plus whatever the rate is on the ship you change to. And, of course, if it is before final payment due date.

Hi Kuki, I've been looking for where it said "non-transferable" and found this on the Carnival website:

"Early Saver: Cruise rates are in US dollars, per person, based on double occupancy, capacity controlled and subject to change at any time without prior notice. Government taxes and fees are up to $145.85 additional per person. A non-refundable and non-transferable deposit is required at the time of booking for all guests to secure confirmed accommodations."

So both of these came from Carnival! I just don't know which one to believe . I'm hoping that my OP is correct.

Fern... non transferable would refer to changing the names of the passengers.

You couldn't give it to your children, for example, to go.. or try and sell it to someone else, to go in your place.

I have done it. I was booked on the Dream and switched to the Valor.

Since there were two of us the cost was $100.($50pp)

Since we switched bookings at the time of cancelation they just rolled over the remaining balance of $400. I then had to pay an additional $100 to cover the $500 deposit on the Valor.

If you don't book another cruise at the time you are canceling the balance of your deposit from the cruise you are canceling is held by CCL for a period of 2 years from the date you cancel.

When you book another CCL cruise the balance that CCL is holding can not be used for your deposit. You must redeposit the full amount and the amount CCL is holding is applie to your final amount due.

Thanks, Kuki. To me "non-transferable meant you couldn't move it to another cruise . I'm glad to see that's not what it means!

Bill, thank you so much for a "real life" example! I'm not happy about a $50.00 fee to change cruise's (really, does anyone think it costs Carnival $50.00 to push a button on a computer?), but it's certainly better than losing a whole deposit !

I already have a spring, 2012, Carnival cruise in mind, so hopefully I can change our booking.

Thanks to both of you,

I just wanted to add others experience .. if you want to transfer the deposit minus the fee .. be sure and do the cancel and rebook in ONE TRANSACTION.

Otherwise the free floating future credit left, they will want to add as OBC to your new cruise.

Yes, Trip! We found a Princess cruise we like much better (Princess Cruises : 29 days Mediterranean & Western Europe From Southampton to Ft. Lauderdale : Details & Availability ). It's more expensive, but this is probably a once in a lifetime trip, so we're going to "go for it"!

I appreciate you sending me the "Fun Ashore" booklet and if you know someone else who want's it, just let me know and I'll pass it along .
