In my past cruises, the maitre d' has helped out occasionally, and, it was most appreciated. On the Magic, I had my first singing maitre d', Ken Byrnes.
This man sure can put on a show. His singing is remenicent of Dean Martin, Vic Damone, or Frank....You get the picture. If he wasn't working in the dining room, in my case, the Southern Lights DR, he could be on stage, singing his heart out. He is known as Kenny B, The Singing Maitre d' and, if you get to hear him, you will remember him as well.
Have any of you regulars had the pleasure of hearing Ken sing?

On our cruise on the Liberty last year we had Konstintine as Maitre d' and every night he too sang and yes he could have performed in on of the lounges. He also went around to every table every night, what a treat he was.

Trip, I well remember Ken-- he does indeed do a great job singing. We have been on 3 cruises ( I think) where he was the Maitre D'---I think the first couple was the Pride several years ago when it was home ported in Port Canaveral and then once after that on a different ship.I never knew where he ended up. Glad he's still out there singing his way through the dining room !!
Ron, nice to see you, glad you were treated to Ken's talent multiple times!....Nancy, you too can see what a difference this talent can make in the dining room. I wonder how many more singing maitre d's there are out there. Does make our dining even more pleasant.
He gave me his card, and I now follow him on Facebook...

I've had Ken as a maitre d' on a number of cruises. He is the original. He is also the one mentioned in Cruise Confidential as "Dan".
At one point or another, just about all maitre d's have been under Ken at one time, including Konstantin. I first met Konstantin on Carnival Splendor in July 2008 (Ken was also there). Konstantin was quite shy then, but has come out of his shell. Last time we saw Konstantin was on Sensation, Feb, 2010 and he was singing!
Yep, the lovely Mrs. Jones (Vita) and I have sailed with Ken a number of times, and always enjoy the show, and his GREAT service. It's always a treat to get aboard and find out that "Kenny B" will be our Maitre 'd.
I guess the way I have spelled the term, "maitre 'd " all these years is incorrect. When I read Ken's card, and saw it spelled this way...maitre d', I figured Ken knew something myself, and many others have wrong, although it sure looked good Now I know
