Default What's the Difference between Carnival

I've only been on Princess and Royal Caribbean. We are booking a cruise on Carnival's Destiny and was wondering if there are any big differences in the ships?

Carnival ships, depending on the ship, have themes, and, are decorated in more of a Las Vegas style. There are more pool based activities as well.

In general there is more of a laid back attitude, but, not the Old Carnival party image anymore. The food is very good, as well as the entertainment.

Pricing and departure cities offer many more options, than other lines. In general, Carnival gives their passengers, a great cruise, at a great value.

A cruise is a cruise is a cruise .. so only small differences, not large differences. I thought the food on Princess was better than on Carnival. The mattresses on Carnival are much better in general. Carnival offers comfort bedding. More expensive foods were offered on my Princess cruises, like cracked crab legs and cashews on the salad buffet the day we were in Belize.

Carnival has a slightly younger average age of pax and always has the most brand new first time cruisers than any other cruiseline.

Isn't that like saying a boat is a boat is a boat? We've been on both RCCL's Enchantment of the Seas and Carnival Destiny. We would take a cruise on either one again without hesitation. Loved them both! The Destiny is slightly larger than the Enchantment, and, as Trip mentioned, the decor is different, sort of Las Vegas style, but not really gaudy. As I recall, the food on both ships was pretty good, but I'm not as picky an eater as some folks are. The entertainment in the show lounge is typical cruise ship entertainment, sometimes good, sometimes just okay. If you haven't booked you cabin yet and are considering one with a balcony, see if Cabin 6344 or 6371 are available (these are a mirror image of each other). We were in 6344 and loved it. The balcony is slightly wider than most of the others. Also, if you or a member of your immediate family is a former member of the U.S. military, don't forget to ask your cruise agent if there is a military discount available. By the way, the sandwiches at the deli (on the Lido deck) are really good! Hope you have a great cruise!

That was my way of saying the changes are not that large to me. Im indifferent to decor and to be honest thought Princess Dream felt stuffy decorating wise. So, I cant say I strongly prefer Carnival or Princess decor, but I do prefer RCL as far as ships and beauty.

I cant say that I would have a better time on any of the above lines, depends on lots of things.. so I hope I wouldnt be dissapointed with Oasis and have my expectations too high. Each line has things I prefer, if only I could put them all together.

I have not been on Destiny, but Iv done Triumph 4 or 5 times, and its supposed to be similar to Destiny in build. One buffet area, is the only thing that to me is a drawback. Honestly, I would not pick a ship based on decor. If it does not appeal to me, I tell myself, you arent buying real estate, or moving in permanently, its one week. What's important to me, might not be important to you. (I am a picky eater lol)

The one complaint in general I have about Carnival is the lack of pools and how small they are.

A travel agent will tell you:

Carnival & RCCL are contemporay lines that cater to younger age groups and families.

Princess is a premium line that caters to a slightly older demographic and those who have probably traveled or cruised before. A more seasoned traveler who appreciates the extras of a premium line.

All have their strengths & weaknesses, as I have sailed all of them. I think cruisers are always partial to the line where they sailed their first cruise. Keep an open mind and you will have a great vacation.

We felt like Carnival was very laid back and fun. Also, they have good waterslides, if that is your thing. (It is ours )
