Going on the liberty. Getting an aft balcony, facing the stern. Heard good things about these cabins. Never had a balcony there. Any comments?

Some people love them, I wasnt one. I like to stop by the cabin between events and found the cabin too out of the way to be convenient. I wished I could see forward where we were going. I have a side balcony next time.
I think the best feature is most aft balconys are extended, so they are double deep and have room enough for a lounge chair instead of a upright chair. I know it varys, but some have a half overhang, so depending on the sun angle, you can usually get sun on your balcony.
If you are one to like to lay out in the sun, I think these would be great. Iv done aft facing twice and just wasnt my thing, but as you say some just love them, and especially the extra space on the balcony. For the few like me, I know there are probably 10 who love them. Im personally looking for that cabin with a 360 degree view
We love 'em, you can sit out & see something going into & out of ports, while sailing you have a view of the wake. On ships where the buffet is that end you can pop up quickly for snacks etc. Apart from being out of the way I can't think of a reason not to have one, being out of the way also means nobody is "passing".

I had my first Aft balcony on the Pride and I absolutely loved it. Plenty of space for 2 lounge chairs, 2 deck chairs and 2 small tables and could still walk around. I could angle my chairs in and out of the sun as I wanted and since my husband is a late sleeper, I could spend all my quiet time on my balcony reading without the noise of the pool area. And, with our room being at the end of the ship, not a lot of traffic at our end. I so enjoyed the Aft balcony that I made sure to book one for our August cruise on the Freedom.
These cabins used to be a closely held secret, with prices that did not reflect how great they were. Then, the secret got out, in part I think due to Cruisemates infamous kite fliers
I love having them. We felt no extra motion, and, who can beat the view! I will admit it's a long walk, but, in my book, the pros outweigh the cons!
Enjoy the wake!!

We always book early to get the aft cabins. It gives you a great view and no wind blowing in your face. Also very little foot traffic outside. So probably the most quite rooms on the ship. Some people might complain about the extra walking to get to the rooms, but I think its a plus. Especially after the many large meals I eat in the dinning room.
I love the aft cabins, with the great views over the wake.
On Carnival though you don't want to book the ones one deck down from Lido Deck. They wash that Lido Deck area above every day, and it overlows water... creating showers on the balconies on the deck below.
At first I thought this was a typo, but as I continue reading the posts, I came across it again. My ignorance takes a better hold of me. What's the wake, or over the wake?
We love the aft cabins! It is like a little community back there with a panoramic view and less wind then the side balconies.
There are a few drawbacks, like soot on ur balcony every morning, but to me they are worth every penny of the price.
Happy Sailing
Tim
