Default What is the best thing to do in Freeport?

I cruised with my parents to Freeport & Nassau a decade ago, and LOVED Nassau, but was really dissapointed in Freeport. We kinds wondered around with not much to look at. This time I am cruising with my husband, 3 kids, and my mom (gotta love a free baby sitter!). Can you suggest some specific things for us to go do while in port? We live on the east coast 15 mins from teh beach, so we go to the beach all the time here. Going to the beach isn't that big of a deal for us on vaca.

This site may give you some ideas on how to enjoy Freeport......I have been there twice, early on in my cruising years and just went to the straw market, and, I agree with you, it was not a fabulous port...these options listed, might put a better spin on your day there.

Stay on the ship!! Use the pools and whatever while the ship is fairly empty. A lot of frequent cruisers stay on board.

As PP said, there is not much to do in Freeport. We also live on the coast but we took our daughter to the free beach and we loved it, it is actually next door to the Hilton (I believe) that you can pay $100 a day to use. Originally, it was our plan to go to the hotel but we ended up doing the free beach. There are gentlemen that will rent you chairs for $10 a piece, hair braiders, a cocktail stand, etc. There is also a casino and shops nearby. I highly recommend doing the free beach and then walking to the shops across the street. There is a great little place on the road where you can get conch fritters that are AMAZING!!! Even our 4 year old loved them.

I was just in Freeport last November. We did the dolphin swim. Bought the tour from Carnival. Great tour.

I enjoy taking a taxi over to Port Lucaya for the day. They have really fixed that area up a lot. Plenty of shopping, restaurants, and a nice casino. The beach is right there as well.

Do you know the name of the beach you went to? Free is always good. Is the water pretty nice? ripe tides?

Thanks

Default Go to Senor Frog's

Not a whole lot to do in Freeport. 2 years ago we went on the bike tour and that was fun. I have been there 5 times and now my favourite thing to do is go to the new Senor Frog's that is right by the dock. Ask for my friend Shiecko Williams and you will have a wonderful time. It is not as big as most others but really fun. They have cleaned the immediate dock area up recently and added more shops. I am not a big fan of the Lucayan market area that most of the excursions drop you off at but they do have cold fresh cocoanuts for a rest stop. This port is a major working port where they refit all the Carnival and other ships and as such is very industrial looking.

First you have a straw market just off the ship, then you have vans that run to town, where you have shopping and casinos, close to the beach.

Stay aboard the ship, and enjoy having the pools all to yourself. You can enjoy any deck chair you want. You can get in the hot tub, and soak as long as you wish, without worrying about holding anyone else up. There are no lines at the buffet, so you can take your time and enjoy any, and all the food for lunch you wish. Usually the entertainers, and CD are lounging around the ship on these port days, and they are open to chatting with you, if you wish. If you get too hot, or too cold, you can step into your cabin, for a nap. GREAT FUN IMO!
