I cruised with my parents to Freeport & Nassau a decade ago, and LOVED Nassau, but was really dissapointed in Freeport. We kinds wondered around with not much to look at. This time I am cruising with my husband, 3 kids, and my mom (gotta love a free baby sitter!). Can you suggest some specific things for us to go do while in port? We live on the east coast 15 mins from teh beach, so we go to the beach all the time here. Going to the beach isn't that big of a deal for us on vaca.
This site may give you some ideas on how to enjoy Freeport......I have been there twice, early on in my cruising years and just went to the straw market, and, I agree with you, it was not a fabulous port...these options listed, might put a better spin on your day there.
As PP said, there is not much to do in Freeport. We also live on the coast but we took our daughter to the free beach and we loved it, it is actually next door to the Hilton (I believe) that you can pay $100 a day to use. Originally, it was our plan to go to the hotel but we ended up doing the free beach. There are gentlemen that will rent you chairs for $10 a piece, hair braiders, a cocktail stand, etc. There is also a casino and shops nearby. I highly recommend doing the free beach and then walking to the shops across the street. There is a great little place on the road where you can get conch fritters that are AMAZING!!! Even our 4 year old loved them.
I was just in Freeport last November. We did the dolphin swim. Bought the tour from Carnival. Great tour.

I enjoy taking a taxi over to Port Lucaya for the day. They have really fixed that area up a lot. Plenty of shopping, restaurants, and a nice casino. The beach is right there as well.
