Has anyone heard the evening buffet areas closed on certain ships after 4 P.M.? On the "other" site, people are claiming the buffet to be closed, not just for the scheduled downtime between lunch and dinner.
I have seen them have only line line available for dinner. So they "closed" the other line.

I saw the post, but it was only for the Spirit to Alaska which is getting ready to move the ship to Australia soon right?
Seems to be specific to only this ship.
I was also surprised to hear Spirit out of Australia is being priced including tips. My TA says Carnival so far is pricing itself out of the market, higher even than Princess. We have a lot of people on our little forum elsewhere from Australia.
the question was sent to John heald and he has posted his response to his FB page and the answer is that the buffet IS open for dinner. Now he got the answer for the head chef for Carnival, who stated that th ebuffet was open from 5:30pm for dinner.
I know from past experience that not all sections are open for dinner but definitely they have more than enought food so you definitely would not go hungry.

I've seen (line line) one line closed too, but not everything. I hope the buffets stay open, and not become a trend on all ships to close after lunch. The fact there's other areas of food is not the problem, it's losing a customary place to eat, then have to do a quick search for options. Pizza, deli sandwiches etc. do not replace a real meal. If this becomes a reality, I hope we are notified of this prior to "being surprised", so we can plan accordingly.
As for being on FB, we all don't want to be on it nor belong to it.
HI Ruth,
I guess someone asked John Heald and he said on Facebook that this is NOT true. I think the person probably went between lunch and dinner and it wasn't open. I read the same thing you did, and John asked Mach to straighten that out.
Read some more a little bit ago, I don't believe they shut things down like that. Yes, for a duration before the evening meal during cleanup and prep, but that's IT. Someone somehow missed that 2nd buffet line, but how did they do it over and over? There is basically only 2 posters saying it was closed. Now, most of us who endure complaints from the "other" site know full well it would have turned into a complaint fiasco. Look what happened over the shrimp cocktails.

One of the 2 posters said they went between 7pm and 9pm and walked around the buffet area a couple of times and there was no food anywhere except the pizza place.

I know ... everyone is assumning the OP's daughter did not see what she said she saw. lol
She said she went there twice at night to eat, and both time no buffet on her cruise to alaska.
Even the best intentioned witnesses can be mistaken. When Ike hit Galveston a friend and co-worker of my wife was on the Conquest. We were tracking events from home figuring she and her party would be calling us to come get them in New Orleans since we could see in satellite images their vehicle wrecked in the port parking lot in Galveston. They never called and we couldn't get through to them on her cell. We figured they had a plan and didn't need us.
Long story short, when they finally did get back home they were incensed at the way they were treated! She and her husband claimed that NO ONE was allowed to disembark the Conquest in New Orleans. When I asked her did she not notice that about 2/3 to 3/4 of the passengers were missing on the trip from N.O. to Galveston she said, "Well, we did think the crowd was a little light in the dining room but just thought people were tired of eating there."
To this day, despite all evidence to the contrary, she still maintains that at least THEY were not allowed to leave the ship. (Her husband was the one who dealt with keeping up with events. I guess he is infallible and we are just in on the conspiracy! )
Personally, I think they were probably being held captive by the Demon Rum

I too was on Conquest, and boarded on Sunday and late Friday night Ike made the ill fated turn. I feel we too were mistreated. I could list things here forever that went wrong, from the light weight sub CD on down to purser's desk just hanging up on us. We spent 4 1/2 hours waiting to disembark in New Orleans and feel we were forced off the ship in a closed port. There had been a river fire or some such and the NO ship had been leaving from Mobile right then, so folks were woken up out of bed to get us thru customs. What a mess.
Had I had any idea the ship would come back to Houston, I would have reboarded. They told us everyone had to get off the ship and go thru customs but could reboard. Its wasnt until that night, way after I got off that I heard they were opening Houston.
I will agree with your friend the substitute CD (the CD was off on vacation) communicated so poorly and really handled it poorly, no wonder she was confused.
I was so mad at Carnival's treatment at the time I said I would never book with Carnival again .. however I had at least 3 more bookings that would have cost money to cancel. Your friend was right, it was that much of a mess.
What really got me was coming home to the dark place message board and when I complained about how Carnival handled the mess .. everyone argued with me, telling me stuff like Carnival doesnt control the weather .. until if I had been upset before, the Carnival Cheerleaders put me over the top mad. I still have people to this day swear on that message board that we had a choice to go back to Houston.. no we did not. I was home Monday night before that decision came down. Having people on a message board lecture me on how I should feel just makes it worse.
Please don't get me wrong, I remember the firestorm of controversy over the whole situation, and am sympathetic to your plight at the time. My point in this case ( I may not have been adequately clear) is that she was really totally oblivious to the fact that there even was a critical situation.
It wasn't until they returned to Galveston that she even noticed that a significant number of people were not still on the ship.
Not trying to judge her, Carnival, or anyone else - just saying that even the best of folks can be mistaken in their perception of circumstances.
I'm trying to figure out what has happened with responses. They are all over the place and irrelevant to the question. How did the subject get so off base?

On Princess they close down one side for a specialty restaurant . Also if they have a special officer supper they might close part of it doen.
Not True! nlb is correct, John confirmed it was untrue.
Like Bill, I doubt the second hand information was ever true. Daughter went back to cabin and said "ah there's nothing to eat up there", well there was nothing she wanted to eat. Mother writes a thread to complain.
