I tried last week on the Inspiration and it was absolutely the worst dish I have ever received on any Carnival ship. Whatever it was, it was NOT meatloaf. It seemed more like the mystery meat that was served in my 3rd grade lunchroom. When the chef read the recipe something was lost in the translation.
And the rates stay low....but the quality continues to deteriorate.
The title "Walmart" of the cruiselines seems to be getting more and more appropriate than ever and well deserving !

It wasn't meat loaf, but a corned beef sandwich. It came from Room Service on whitebread with a slice of tomato, mayo (!) and some lettuce. No rye, no mustard, no swiss cheese .
No clue... . !

In my opinion food was better in all cruiselines before they came out with specialty restaurants.

No and I am not planning to try it. I do not eat hamburger meat in any form.

Hummmmm, not familiar with the hamburger meat. Just what part of the cow does that come from? Ground beef is relative. Some are more expensive than fine cuts of beef. Many use chopped sirloin for their burgers, I guess some people call the cheaper ground beef 'hamburger meat' and who knows what Carnival uses.
BTW--I make my own 'hamburgers' from a blend of ground beef, spices, and onions. You'd miss out not having one of mine. Everyone come over on the next holiday and if we don't have a fire ban I'll fix a bunch!
Trip, I do not eat meatballs either. I went to an Italian restaurant here once and ordered Italian sausage. I could not believe they make Italian sausage here with ground beef. It was revolting. I wont make that mistake again. Actually that was the second time I had found that down here. The first time was in the food court at the mall. I figured that a food court restaurant would do something like that. I was surprised to find it in an Italian restaurant. There is another Italian restaurant here that I want to try but I darn sure will limit my order to a pasta dish.
Snoozeman, I am sure your burgers are great. Given that there is about 1000 miles between here and there I probably wont be dropping in. Thanks for the invite though.

Carnival purchases their ground beef from J&B Foods of St. Michael Minnesota and everyone should continue to eat as much of it as possible because my nephew is a supervising butcher at the company.
I have "a lot" of J&B hamburger and I'm not dead yet but, like any company, stuff can happen and all hamburger should be cooked well.
I will say that I've had some tasty Italian sausage that was a blend of ground beef and ground pork.
Laura: You are like my wife. She always refers to hamburger as "hamburger meat." I always give her a hard time about it. Is there hamburger that isn't meat.? The scary thing is that there may be. (BTW: Veggie burgers don't count.)
Take care,
Mike

I always purchase the ground sirloin when making even tacos, meatballs, etc...It seems to have a lot less fat in it...I rarely have hamburgers when on vacation, there is too many other dishes that I don't normally get to have, so I leave the burgers for home....

I am sure Carnival Meatloaf is perfectly OK to eat if you can get past the taste.
It might pass for meatloaf in India.
I do not mean to infer that the meat is in any way inferior. I just have never liked hamburger. I find it to be really bland and tasteless. I also agree with Donna, I usually eat things on a cruise that I do not get at home. I also love trying things I have never had before.

We just buy a whole cow every year from a friend of ours.It is so much better then what you get in the store! It works out to 2 .59 a pound after you pay the butcher and everything. But your getting T bone steaks and roast the whole 9 yards
I get mine pretty fresh, I'm looking out the window and I can see about 80 head of Angus on the hoof right now.
BTW-- I also see a lot of smoke from wildfires south of us--all the way from Bastrop, the ones on the news. Big fires. This photo was a few days ago in my county, but I've had them this big on my place. Very scary.

While the ground beef is perfectly fine I have no control of what they do with it. I hate it when some chef tries to "gourmet" and ruins a perfectly good dish.
I know I would probably choke on Carnival's meatloaf but now I know I have to try it and see how bad it is. I can't resist. I also tried Ranch Steak on Royal Caribbean and discovered that it wasn't as bad as everyone said it was. It was worse.
Take care,
Mike

I haven't tried the meatloaf, but will on my Nov. cruise. Really curious. The problem with meatloaf is the taste is so variable, at home we flavor it the way we choose. I've had it at work and it was not to my liking. Had it at a friend's house, again, not the way I would flavor it.
I really am giggling....under the email notification to me, of another response to this thread, there was an email with it's title, $10.00 premium meats
How's that for a coincidence? lol

I am sailing on the Inspiration in November. Maybe one of my roomies will ask for it. They can tell me what they think.

I would never order meatloaf on a cruise (or in a restaurant)! I make a good meatloaf (if I do say so, myself ). As has been said, everyone's meatloaf is different. We happen to like onion, garlic and catsup. Other's have their choice's.
Good post, Snoozeman !
