Been there, done that-Cozumel

I have been to cozumel 7 times out of 9 cruises and I will be going back in November. I have done the playa mia beach break and the jeep tour where lunch was included and we went to the beach by a lighthouse (thats all i can remember). This upcoming cruise I want to go on an excursion that is for snorkeling. I really dont care whether I book it through the cruise line or go on my own considering I have done some of both in Cozumel. I just want to make sure wherever I go I have an actual reef and see fish. Any suggestions from all of those experienced cruisers out there?

Have you looked through all the excursions that Carnival offers for Cozumel? There is bound to be a sorkeling tour, since the snorkeling is pretty good there. You can also go over to Chankanaab Park and snorkel off the shore, they also rent all the equipment and have heard it is good there as well. It is a short cab ride from the pier, huge beach with restaurat and they also have the dolphin swim right there.

I totally agree with Donna. Chankanaab is a good choice. They even had lockers to store your stuff and places to change clothes. Crystal clear water and lots of fishies and reefs. The only problem I had there is that you have to walk down some steps carved out of the rock or lava to get into the water, but that is true all over Cozumel. Plenty of cabs ready to take you back to the ship when you are ready.

We had a great time on the mayan ruins tour in Cozumel, actually, I recomend it. We also made a stop at a market of sorts on the same tour, and passed through another area where local people were selling masks. I think we got a great deal and bought 3 for less than $50 IIRC.

I had been to Cozumel about 10 or so times on cruises and had done all the things I was interested in so at 60 decided to do the Discover Scuba excursion. Did it, enjoyed it, and went home and got ceritified. The view always changes at 85 to 90 feet deep. I love going to Cozumel now.;-)

Lot's of great reefs in Cozumel. That's what it was famous for before it became a cruise ship destination.

I've done the Fury Catamaran snorkel excursion a few times and really enjoyed it. Chankanaab Park is always a great day as well.

This is my first time ever going to Cozumel. I wanted to ask you about a beach shore sxcursion, called Paradise Island, free food and drinks. You know anything about that one? I'm going Nov 3, 2011

Alright everyone thank you so much for your inputs. We have been looking at the ones offered by carnival but I really just do not want to pay 50+ pp to only snorkel for 45 minutes. I went to Roatan a few months ago went to west bay beach paid 20$ to get there pp and we snorkeled for about 2 hours. I love being in the water and taking pictures. I have heard alot of good things about chankanaab so i think thats what we will do so we can come and go as we please. thank you so much!

You are thinking of Passion Island which is all inclusive. Paradise beach is a beach club with a brand new very nice pool, but you have to pay for food and drinks there. Passion Island is very nice and fairly quite.

Paradise beach will sell you a wristband, the color determines whether you eat,drink, or swim for free. Been a couple of years, so I do not remember the price, but it is marked as one of our "return to" places.
