Just back from Miracle 8 day Southern Caribbean
Had a great cruise. Ship is in remarkable condition considering age. Clean and spiffy. Crew was especially friendly and courteous. Somebody at Carnival has gotten the word out to the crews. We really enjoyed all the attention we received. Everybody had a smile, a hello, how are you today. It made for a delightful cruise. Took the "Behind the Fun Tour". It was excellent, all crew members we dealt with were knowledgeable and friendly. Tour of the bridge was outstanding and pictures with the Captain great. Only negative factor to us was the cost ($95 each). A more reasonbaly cost would have been $75. However, since only 16 folks can participate at a time and it is always sold out I guess Carnival can justify the cost. There were two groups this time as 32 folks were signed up. Grand Turk was my wife's favorite port as she really likes to snorkle. It was the 2nd time around for La Romana for us so we just walked around the small shop area up the hill from the port more to stretch our legs than anything else. We did a sunset cruise in Aruba and it was outstanding. The weather really cooperated and the sunset was magnificent. Of course the generous pourng of various tropical libations also helped:D. It was our second time in Curucao. We did a bus tour of the island last time so we just did a walk around the town. It is really a very pretty place and quite colorful. The only negative item on this cruise was the meatloaf served in the dining room. Yes, we had been forewarned but just had to see (or rather taste) for ourselves. And all you folks out there were absolutely correct. It was terrible and uneatable (if that's a word). From the taste to the texture it was really bad. So you all be forewarned:( Embarkation and debarkation in Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale) was uneventful. Since we are Platinum we were not bothered by any long waiting. A few of the folks we talked to on the ship did complain aboiut how long it took to get through the embarkation porocess but they may have a different opinion on how it should go. All in all a great time was had and we are already looking at cruises for next year.
So glad you had a great time. We are leaving this Friday on the same cruise and having never been on Miracle I was curious about the ship. We have made 7 previous all on Conquest, Ecstasy, and Grand Princess. Thanks for all the tips. Please tell me about the cruise center in Grand Turk. I hear it is outstanding and worthy of time there.
Thanks also for the tips on the MEATLOAF but I can't imagine anyone being around all that great food and ordering meatloaf. Course I don't eat it even when I make it.
Just 4 days left and can't wait.
Grand Turk port area has a lot of shops with some pretty good bargains. We found a few liquor prices actually cheaper than the ship. However, the ship has a program where if you find a lower price elsewhere they will honor it. We took pictures of the lower prices and the ship honored them. Saved about $40 overall. Check the liquor prices on the ship for your favs and then compare with shore prices.
The big attraction of course is Margaritaville! Large pool, lots of music and just a crazy place to be. Rest of cruise was as I posted. The meat loaf thing was that prior to the cruise we had read and heard so much about how bad it was we just had to try it for ourselves:-). You are right normally we wouldn't order it as there is so much other good stuff to eat. Hope you have a great cruise.
Thanks so much for replying. Of course I was teasing about the meatloaf.
Can't wait to go to the Margaritaville in Grand Turk. It is the last of the ones in the Caribbean we have not been to. We were in Vegas when the Margarittaville Casino opened in Vegas at the Flamingo. What a blast. The tables at the restaurant there are designed so that you seem to be eating off the back of a fishing boat complete with rods and reels. So cool.
My wife and I are so ParrotHead we are looked at weirdly by our friends. So What.
