Hi All,

My wife's passport has her maiden name on it. I can't imagine we would be the first couple to run into this issue. Did you bring your marriage certificate along to show the name change, or just book the cruise under her maiden name?

The general rule is that air tickets and cruise ticket names and birth dates must match the booking made in the identification shown, in this case the passport.
Verify with your TA but you really do not want to get into legal issues trying to show someone your marriage certificate overrides the booking name.\
You would not be the first couple who travelled under maiden names together, think of it as a 'did you know' story when people read the name plates on your door. You are both over 21, so should not be an issue with cruiseline.

How long have you been married? What are the names on your cruise booking?

If you were recently married, as in a month or so, then you may get some leniency. If it's been six years then forget it. She needs a new passport.

If the names on the reservation match her maiden name then no problem at all.

A passport is like your drivers license. If your name changes you need to get the document changed.

If the booking is made with the new name (change) then a Marriage Certificate or License would be needed to verify it.

If you keep your maiden name, then there is no problem because everything stays the same. I dont think the cruiselines care if you are married, only that all of your identification matches. If the wife has changed her driver's license and there is time, I would change the name on the passport, too, so that everything matches.

I also want to add that when I got married and was going to go on a cruise for my honeymoon, I made the reservation in my maiden name because I knew there was not enough time to change my license or my passport.

I have been married for just over a year and we are going on a cruise in February. My passport also has just my maiden name, and it expires in 2013 so I just wanted to wait to renew it. The woman at Carnival who made our reservation made it with my first, maiden (now middle) and married name, and said that as long as I brought our marriage license that everything would be fine.

Write back after February and let us know if everything went alright!
