Default Class Reunion Cruises

Being that I'm the Reunion Chairperson, of course I insisted that we plan our 20th Reunion on a cruise. Woot! So far we've been very successful booking rooms (over 30 booked with a class that was only 115 grads) and we are still months away. Cruising end of June 2012.

At this point it's time to start planning the reunion portion of the cruise itself, and frankly I'm at a loss. When I cruise, I usually just get tipsy, lay around the pool and flirt with hotties. Probably won't work the rest of the group so I need to come up with some good ideas.

Has anyone ever planned or been a part of a Class Reunion Cruise? Can you offer any ideas (the more specific the better) or point me in a good direction? I'd love to correspond with someone personally for ideas.

Thanks!

I think that you got such an amazing turnout is a good thing, good for you! Is that 30 cabins or 30 people. Has your travel agent mentioned the free berth at 8 cabins? You can take the cost and plan some onboard goodies.

I have run my 3 class reunions ...you need to decide how many group things people will want to participate in, on this cruise. Isi t a 7 dayer, or less? What is the itinerary? Perhaps something might be planned in port.....give us some more info.

Ineresting idea. I am on the committee for a 55th. reunion .I will suggest this to other committee members .

Our 45th was on a one day cruise and 90% of the people preferred to sit in the dining room and talk but a 7 day cruise might be interesting .

Oddly enough, I've suggested that we have an informal cruise reunion for my little class of 55 or so members, and it's been received with mixed replies, but I feel that in the end, it'll work out well. I'm just going to pick out a ship, date, and T.A., and e-mail that information to all my classmates, and we'll see what happens. I'll be watching your thread with great interest!

I have been planning a cruise for about 1 year now for all classes. We set sail in about 6 months. Despite the fact that we have almost 600 members in a Facebook group, there seems to be very little interest. I am a bit perplexed. You would think that, out of that many people, some percentage of them would be excited about going. I've put up polls on the page and numerous posts to pique their interest. But I've seen little or no response. So there are a handful of us going at this point and I've decided to have a good time regardless how many people join us. After all, it is a CRUISE!

Strangely and for cruise lovers who think this idea is a no brainer, it seems to rarely work...a friend tried to do it on our neighborhoods Facebook group, And, I told her not to be disappointed if it didn't happen, And, sadly it didn't .. for so many reasons, it just seems hard for some to commit..money, dates, itinerary, some people want a one day get together, and adios...enjoy your time with those who chose to join in the fun..you tried.....I ran 3 of my HS reunions, I know all about the hard work in your planning!

I've been involved with ALOT of groups over the last 15 years and the number one group that fails more often than all the others is a class reunion. I can't tell you how many times we've helped start a class reunion group, only to have it end up as a bust. We once had a group book 100 cabins. I laughed to myself and told my wife that I would be really surprised if they got more than a dozen cabins. Have to admit that even I was surprised when they only managed to get two cabins booked!

I personally think doing a class reunion on a cruise is a great idea. Even suggested it to our class for their 40th anniversary, but got soundly voted down.

I think the main reason why is that high school acquaintances are good for a dinner dance and perhaps a picnic, but they really don't feel like spending more than a day or two with people that really don't know all that well.
