Default Going Down with the Ship

I keep on hearing about the Captain of the Concordia leaving his ship with people still on board. Is he legal bound to stay on board or is it a moral obligation to wait for the last person to get to safety.

Italian laws he is bound to stay. But morally and being a Captain you are responsible. Take 9/11 for example...Police and fire were not by law to run into a burning building. But there morals, courage, and duty to the people made them heros. This Captain had an obligation is nothing more than a coward.
