So here's the deal, in some of my free time I have been playing around on the Wikipedia doing some various edits on cruising related pages. On the entry for Carnival Cruise LInes they have a section listing past ships and have links to a couple of images, however it's very lacking. I'm kind of hoping someone out there has a picture of "Mardi Gras" "Carnivale" "Festivale" and "Tropicale" in their original Carnival liveries they could share. If you're so inclined, the pictures would need to be uploaded to the Creative Commons site and basically placed in public domain. Here is a link to the Commons Licensing which helps explains how that works.

I can't help with the pix, but I'd like to ask a favor --- if you are at all able to find them --- I'd love to see you preserve the deck plans for those ships.
I don't know how much this would help you but if you Google Empress of Canada ship you will get a history and photos of the Mardi Gras, as when it first started operating in was built and operated as a trans-Atlantic liner and was named Empress of Canada. It had a sister ship called Empress of Britain, I think. However, the Empress of Canada was bought and refurbished with some paint and a shoestring and went on to become Carnival's first ship, the Mardi Gras.
I sailed it back in '83 but don't have the complete deck plans.
Hopefully this may help you a little.
no photos but an episode of the old tv show 'the a-team' was filmed on the tropicale. the guys even repel down the side of the ship.
tropicale stuff starts at 6:05
i don't know anything about this stuff and if you can do something like take screenshots.
For stuff going onto the Wikipedia, one has to be very careful about copyright stuff. Taking screen captures of a TV should would actually be considered a copyright violation. Basically to use it on Wikipedia, it has to be in the public domain. For the desk plans, I'm not sure how I could work that, I will have to look. Basically that's why I came here hoping to find someone that had a picture of them from a past cruise that they would be willing to license in such a way that it can be uploaded to the Commons.

I have a Carnival brochure from 1989/1990 showing pictures & deck plans of Mardi Gras, Carnivale, Festivale, Tropicale, Holiday, Jubilee, & Celebration. It is a Carnival publication, so they would own the copyrights. Would this be useful ?

Not really. Carnival would have to release the images themselves. That's why I reached out on here hoping someone that sailed on one of these older ships had a snapshot or two they would be willing to contribute to the greater good.

As the editor CruiseMates I spent about three hours one day updating cruise line information for them. I am considered an "expert" in the field by many people.
Well, some IDIOT editor at Wikipedia said I could not contribute to their site because it was self promotion - that I was promoting myself as an expert. They took down every single word I wrote.
In other words, if you are qualified to add content to Wikipedia you are not allowed to do so. I was so mad I will never, ever try to help Wikipedia ever again.
That was just a plain insult to my time and intelligence, and a stupid, stupid rule. Why was that guy allowed to tell me what can be said about cruises in Wikipedia? He doesn't know anything about cruises, and he had no idea how valuable and unique my contribution was - because he knows nothiing about my field. Their loss and yours.

I have a pic of the Carnivale on it's last run under the Carnival Brand. They were painting Fiesta Marina on her mid cruise. I will try to dig it out and scan it.
