Default Cove Balcony cabins

What's up with Cove Balcony's, I noticed these are on Rivera Deck, did they swap out the ocean views for these, or just a few of the obstructed ocean views? They look ok but not as sunny as a regular balcony however they look more private. Your thoughts are welcome.

I've only been on Dream. Those cabins indeed don't get lots of direct sun on you if you are a sunbather. They feel more cozy, private with the lifeboats overhead. The location was great for MDR, or exiting the ship. I especially loved being close to the water.

From what I understand, it's the thrill of looking at the water, not looking down on the water...For many, that closeness would make them crazy, whille the ones that book them, want them again! Something for everyone!

I looked at the deck plans and I'm bummed they took so many ocean view cabins and converted them. It's a way for the cruise line to bump up already high prices higher since I book Ocean views, not balcony's I'm not happy. I can't do inside because I'm too claustrophobic. Now there are way less cabins for me to choose from. I also wonder what happens when the waves are high as they can hit the windows from those decks?

Balconies are money makers, more since smoking ban except for on a balcony. It would take a severe storm for waves to get that high. In case they do, they have a "storm" door that closes off the cabin, leaving it an ocean view.
I really don't see balconies causing a shortage of O.V.'s, most smokers don't book them anymore.

Yes - those balconies are carved ight of the hulls towards the stern, very close to the water.

I like to concept myself, sorry you lost a few OVs, although it seems like there should still be plenty.

Attached is a picture I took of a Fantasy-class cove balcony.

I've been in one on Ecstasy. I didn't realize they were called COVE. I knew Dream was called COVE. Either way, loved being by the water and docks.

The cove balconies are indeed pretty cool!
And, if you're a fan of watching the "runners" at pier, it's closer to the action!

Have not been a fan of the lower decks in some time now, for the traffic and slow elavators, but it's a nice trade.
Often, the cove's aren't that much more than an OV...
Just my bit...

We had a dream cove balcony. LOVED it - LOVED being that close to the water and LOVED the fact you can look directly over the water - as on the newer ships, the balconies actually look on to the deck below. I like being directly over the water when I'm paying for a balcony!
