Hosted Single Cruise vs. Regular Cruise?

I am going on my first cruise as a solo cruiser in April 2013. Debating between a hosted singles cruise or just going as a regular single. Which is better? Pro/cons? Any thoughts from experienced cruisers would be helpful

Thinking that a hosted singles cruise may offer more options and things to do. Plus a better chance of having more singles onboard and singles activities?? I would do some further checking and find what best works for you and your schedule to cruise.

I would think the hosted singles cruise, the prices are more to pay for more activities and the hosts way. Are you wanting to meet someone or just cruise? Once you decide that question, you know if the higher price is worth it or not.

I cruise solo and there are always people to talk to. Carnival will seat you with other singles, sisters, friends travelling together if you request traditional dining.

One thing about cruising solo, Im not doing the activities someone else wants to do, Im doing the ones I want to do when I want to. I can turn on the tv in my cabin and not worry what my roommate will say. Cruising solo is fun even for regular cruises. I saw Tulum solo and just join up with a cruiseline excursion and seem to meet other solos to sit with on the bus.

I would think it all depends on what you are looking to take away from your cruise.
I have been on 2 cruises that had a "singles" group on them, and while I wasn't part of the group, I was invited to all their activities.
Off hand, I would say women to men ratio 5 to 3 at least.
On one sc, about 5 of the people joined my (loosely formed) group stating 'we were more fun"

I'm grateful I saved about $300 on my 7 days.
Many I'm sure are more comfortable with someone else "taking the lead" and organizing things, as well as being part of a "group"

So, it's really up to you.
It's doubtful I would ever join a group cruise for singles, just simply because it isn't a value for me.

Most of our singles cruises are open to singles of all ages 21 years and above with the majority of people in any group usually falling somewhere between 35 to 55 years old. Of course, there will be singles younger than 35 as well as over 55, so don’t let those statistics stop you! We also offer several unique age specific singles cruises throughout the year such as our 20s and 30s sailings, and over 40 sailings that are very popular within those age groups.

You can still do what you want on a singles cruise, your party's with the group and activities are included, but you choose what you want to do. I've never heard of anyone being invited to the parties without paying to be in the group so I wouldn't count on that happening. I did see a man who wanted to join, end up paying extra on ship to be part of the group, so he could go to the parties and eat with the large group of singles. Most escorted singles groups have between 100-250 people roughly. Halloween, and New Years get 200-400 singles. Usually more women then men. I have done non singles cruises also but met very few other singles all were women most I'd say ages 45 and up. Other then that most people on the ship were coupled up or family's. I had fun on both, made many friends some of whom I travel with, don't go expecting romance, go to make friends and no expectations, if it happens it's a bonus, message me any questions. I have gone with 3 different singles company's. Hope this helps.

I would prefer hosted solely because you never know if you are going to meet anyone sailing solo on a regular cruise.

Most ships have one or two singles get-togethers per cruise, but not every single goes to them, so you may not meet everyone.

Norwegian Epic is the only ship I would sail upon as a solo cruiser because they have a dedicated singles area.

Looking to take a potential cruise (4-5 days) in April or May. I've cruised 6 times but always with family, friends, or ex. Single and wanting to meet people or go with an adventurous group who doesn't want to just party but enjoys the beach, tours, exploring, etc.

Haven't done a singles cruise, but it puts you in a good spot of an immediate group of people sailing alone. Sometimes going solo as a single doesn't work out, it's hit or miss finding another single to hang out with.
