No Escargot!!! Say it ain't so!!!

I just read that Carnival will not be serving escargot for the time being. :( Due to the drought in Indonesia they are unable to obtain the colossal escargot that they use.

Until then they will be serving a Corvina and Shrimp ceviche. Once the supply is back then escargot will return to the menu.

Take care,
Mike (who loves escargot)

Sure hope the drought ends before we sail in Oct. Escargot is something I really enjoy and Carnival serves some of the best!

KayAnnie April 12th, 2012 09:44 PM

Lots of cruise lines have had to take them off the menu due to that drought. I'd rather have something else that is quality and fresh than subpar escargot. Here's hoping they come back soon!

Trackypup April 12th, 2012 11:33 PM

Yep, celebrity has removed them too.

Silly I know because I eat other stuff....can't face snails somehow, just looks like a lump of chewy gristle made palatable by the garlic.....

Trip April 13th, 2012 07:47 AM

I would have to agree with John..just cannot wrap my brain around this dish.....hoprfully, for the ones who will miss em...they'll be back soon.

Yea, that's close but I still enjoy them:). Got a taste for them when I was stationed at the American Embassy in Morocco. The French restaurants that were still there served them all the time. I rarely order them here in the States because the quality varies so much. But the ones on Carnival were great.

I think they could put just about anything in those little dishes, as long as the sauce is the same! The snails themselves don't taste like much to me. It's the sauce that is to die for!! I think that is the only dish I have ever ordered more than one of! :)

I would hardly consider a ceviche as a replacement dish!

Why not use shrimp or lobster instead. Anything cooked up in that yummy garlic butter would be delish. I do it all the time with shrimp. The Keg Steakhouse has a lobster dish from time to time which they serve in the escargot plates.

Umm, I'm with John and Trip on this one.

I am a fan of Celebrity, but it would not be proper cruise without escargot.

It's true that the larger version are out for awhile but the Steakhouse is still serving the "standard" size because they are sourced elsewhere.

Aerogirl April 13th, 2012 10:26 PM

I like escargot but didn’t care for it when I cruised Freedom. I probably wouldn’t order on a Carnival ship again.

Queen of Oakville April 14th, 2012 11:21 AM

I dont' know if they were large or small, but they were yummy, and we just had them on Disney Dream.

Manuel April 14th, 2012 11:23 AM

On my last cruise on the Celebrity Equinox, I had escargot every day. And they were excellent.

I see this column, now. I guess it was in April they announced it. So I may hve been lucky in May when they were still serving escargot.

Now there are two columns about escargot.

zydecocruiser July 2nd, 2012 10:34 PM

Someday they will return, but as mentioned, they are still serving them in the Steakhouse and they are wonderful.

{probably too big...}

KiwiBird July 3rd, 2012 07:17 AM

How can you think it could be too big? I'm sure it just matches their delicious flavor.

It's good to know they may be back soon, or even already. Thank you for the photo of the Steakhouse servings.
