Looking for help.. Booked Carnival cruise for May 30, 2012 out of New York and two weeks ago my daughter broke her foot. She ended up with a cast and will be in a wheel chair on the cruise as she is unable to put any pressure on it at all. We called Carnival to let them know about our situation and filled out a Special Needs form. A couple of days later we received an email saying that our room is a standard room and not for handicap people (something we already knew). Today, we called to get a different room that would accommodate my daughter but they said sorry no handicap rooms are available. However, their site shows that a suite is available As a matter, fact when I called the first time, the rep said if they do not have any handicap rooms available, we would be upgraded to suite with nominal charges. Any suggestions as to what we can do?

Sorry to hear about the situation with your daughter. First thing I'd do is make arrangements for a rental wheel chair. They do not have unlimited wheel chairs available onboard, and do not guarantee that you'll get one.

It is unfortunate that there isn't a handicapped room available. Though the suites on Carnival are larger rooms, they aren't designed for ease of entry etc. The bathroom has a tub, but it's again not equipped as handicap accessible.

Hopefully you'll go and have a great cruise, despite the challenges you'll face, getting your daughter around.

Bring a walker to get through a door, simple. All other benefits of a handicap room won't matter anyway. People with greater permanent handicaps travel in standard cabins.

What Ruthless Boss said! Also, you might try to find a "knee scooter" (or whatever they're called??) With one of these her foot will be up and protected and she won't have to use crutches. I'd say there's little to no chance of being upgraded to a suite because of a broken anything :o!

Have a great cruise,
