it is a bummer to hear the fun farewell party is GONE. we loved the fact it was so quite in the capers and we could get and and get some freebies with very few people there.

The other day I interviewed one of Carnival's CDs, Butch Begovitch, who as it turns out was a participant in designing the new VIFP parties.

The interview I did with him, while I was here on the Breeze, should be finalised and up Tues. or Wed.

Yes, they will only be for Gold, Platinum, and Milestone, but from his descriptions I think those people may really like them.

Not the former Past Guest Party or the new VIFP. The Fun Farewell was the party they had on the last sea day. It originated when they did away with the Captains Party. It was probably their plan all along to phase to out.

If it was their plan for the start, then why implement in the first place and give some people two opportunities to complain? I'm not buying the conspiracy theory.

I think they actually did. When they made the changes to the Captains Cocktail Party (with the free drinks) to what they have now they knew they would get some feedback about eliminating the cocktail party. So the came up with the Fun Farewell party. They did get a lot of comments when they made the change and if you will remember they always said "oh we haven't eliminated a free cocktail party, it's just now at the end of the cruise". JH mentioned it a dozen times. They did it to deflect complaints. I believe the plan was always to NOT promote it very well and eventually do away with it all together. If they had just eliminated one cocktail party at once that would have brought a LOT of negative comments, so they phased it out. Good management and planning on their part. It's what I would have recommended. But it is what it is....one party eliminated.

You are correct.

Not only John.... but this was the standard answer to folks on various cruise forums from other cruisers. That was clearly the understanding....at least from the 100's of posts I have read when they changed the Captain's Party.

(and yes, it was 100's of posts on just one cruise forum....you know how Carnival people like their free booze) lol

"They did not eliminate the free drinks....they just moved it to the end of the cruise."

Just like people called it from the very beginning, the timing of the fun farewell party was bad and not at a time when a lot of people want to booze it up. Didn't think it would last long.
