Default No More Fun Farewell Party!

Did you hear Carnival has done away with or are doing away with the Fun Farewell party? Were you even aware of the Fun Farewell party? I disembarked from the Dream on 5/26 and it appears they had already done away with it on this particular ship. I thought this was a great send off (last evening of the cruise) and a great PR move by Carnival even if a huge crowd was not present. Some say they weren't well attended because they weren't well advertised. It is apparently due to lack of interest as to the reason Carnival is doing away with them.

In the recent past the notes about it in the Capers/Fun Times was small and often missed so many never knew about it. You had to be a frequent cruiser or be paying very close attention to know about it.

Last week it was noticed that the Triumph did not have it. Not sure if it was because it was a 5 day.

Was your cruise a 5 or 7 day?

The ones I attended in the past were always well received and attended.

I have read today that it is indeed true that they have done away with them. It was mentioned that the "reason was low attendance".

It could be low attendence or a cost cutting measure?

It's likely that it was the "grand plan" all along. They moved it from the Captain's Welcome Aboard cocktail party (day 2) to day 6; promoted it less, and got less people. What a surprise!

Last year was my first Carnival cruise (on the Ecstasy) and I was there along with lots of others (the room was actually crowded) so I don't buy it that Carnival discontinued the Farewell Party because they were not popular. We had a great time, mainly because of the music but the free drinks were nice also. I left the ship feeling very positive about Carnival and the cruise I had just enjoyed. Now that I learned that my next Carnival cruise will NOT have the Farewell party those positive feelings have changed. What a stupid PR move that was!!!!

how can there be a lack of interest in something only a handful know about?

Maybe if CCL had let people know about it they would have been attended by more people.

PhilandLiz - mine was a 7 day.

I so agree with Kuki, it was a "grand plan" and yes, how could many attend if they were not aware. Strategy all along.

I loved those parties! We just went to one on my last cruise (May 13-20). I hope it's not true!

I too have always enjoyed these Farewell Parties.
I have always thought that they did not play these parties up because they had free drinks, and did not want them to be heavily attended. It is one more Cost Cutting Move. Sadly it seems things are eroding little by little, slowly but surely.

Yes, sadly it is true.

THAT is not allowed.

I know this because two social hosts got in big trouble for announcing the event just minutes before it was to take place and the lounge was PACKED!!!

That is terrible. They can sure announce for BINGO and sales in their shops but they can't announce for a party, that is a true shame.

The ones DH and I went to were "well received", although they didnt announce it and it was not well advertised. All cruisers were not aware there was such an event. I think its just another cost cutting measure. Oh well, as much as we enjoyed them, we will not let it ruin our cruises knowing there wont be one. Happy cruising everyone~

This is not good. Management is lying to the Customers. Instead of being honest and saying the parties were cancelled them as a cost cutting measure, they act as though no one attended them. It was obvious that they did NOT want very many people to know about the Party and Gratis Drinks. I just watched what was once a great Airline go bankrupt because of the same arrogant attitude by senior management.

The few that I attended were poorly attended. I certainly knew about them and just wasn't that interested and stopped going.

As for advertising, Carnival doesn't advertise the main dining rooms or Lido very much, yet people manage to find them.

I don't understand how something be well attended, as some claim, and lack of advertising be responsible for it being poorly attended, as others claim.

Carnival isn't going to go bankrupt - they don't have to worry about U.S. labor laws and unions. A number of protectionist laws such as PSVA tried to keep foreign competition out and just helped bring about the demise of some U.S. industries.

We gave up attending the last Bloggers get together on BC5 in order to attend the Fun Farewell. We always found it to be more fun. Will Marion was the entertainer and the drinks were great. I guess that will be last one I attend.

Yes, indeed. On every cruise, I would say to folks (especially those with the blue cards) "don't forget free drinks at 5PM today".... and EVERY TIME they would say "where?? we had no idea...."

I am not talking about one or two folks....I am talking multiple folks on EVERY cruise..... (which is about 7 times year).

I think people did not know about it because they don't really read all the Fun Times. They know about certain things on a cruise ship (what to expect to a certain degree)....but a party with free booze is not one of them!!

Well....WAS one of them....

Staff getting into trouble for actually announcing this party tells me all I need to know about Carnival's "intentions".

I think the Blue people are more likely to read every word in the Fun Times whereas seasoned cruisers are more likely to ignore. It certainly seems seasoned cruisers are more likely to throw the paper room service menu away.

I attended the party each and every time and enjoyed it .
A few ships were well packed with people ,others not so much.

I agree Carnival started this party with all intentions of pulling the rug over their customers eyes,, and they did so with attempts to calm their customers down when changing from The Captans party to then the new " one dollar off drinks so..

Carnival has become well known for not caring about their customers, after all if a few customers drop Carnival there are several in line to take their place.

There becoming famous for saying Sorry .
