We are doing our first Christmas cruise to the Cozumel and Progresso. Does anybody know what the weather will be like? Will it be cold or warm enough to swim? How do the activites differ on a Christmas cruise if they differ at all? And most importantly.... Is Santa on the ship? (my son would really like to know this)
The 2 holiday sailings I did, were the week between, Christmas & New Year, so we probably just missed seeing Santa, but, since you are sailing west, you will have tropical weather, as we sailed east, and it was cooler. You should have no problem swimming at all.
I am sure you will get many responses about the activities that week, which I do believe will be minimal as far as the "celebration" is concerned. The ship will be decorated and there is a fun sense if the holiday onboard, among all the passengers...have a ball!!
Trip, with her book & tea!

We sailed west the week before Christmas once the weather was beautiful (one night a little rough - and starkly cool when we returned to Port Canaveral.) We snorkeled twice and the water was excellent.
All I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by; John Masefield

We were on the Carnival Pride last year, boarding on Christmas Day, and debarking on New Years Day. Of course, the ships are fully decorated, but there were several things that made it just a little more special. First, upon boarding we were offered FREE champagne, with or without alcohol. They had embarkation lunch in the dining room, in addition to up on Lido deck. But, the coolest thing (no pun intended), was that they made it snow in the Atrium a few times during the day. They also had a special Christmas menu, with all the Holiday favorites. Sad to say, we didn't see Santa. Maybe if we were on for Christmas Eve he would have been there.
New Years Eve was a Blast, with parties all over the ship, including on deck. Again FREE Champagne was offered for a time before the ball dropped. Again, a special New Years Eve menu was offered in the Dining room.
Though I used the word FREE a couple of times above, it really isn't, since you do pay a hefty Premium to sail on the Holidays, but it's worth it to do it at least one time!!
