9-15-12

I'm new to this site.Just wanting to know if anyone is going on the ecstacy sept. 15 2012. This will be my first cruise. I am so excited but need a little advice especially about the sail and ship account. If i pay in cash do I wait until the end of the cruise to pay? If i use my credit card for ship and sail account can I still take the card with me on the islands. In other words will I still be able to have the card in my possession and be able to use it on the islands. I guess I should take the limit of my card at the bank. Seeing how i can not use over 500 dollars a day on my card. I would appeciate any advice I could get. Thanks :D

If you pay in cash you have to go to guest services as soon as you board and put the cash down, the sooner the better as the line gets long very fast. Yes you can take your credit card with you to ports they don't actually hold it, they just keep the number on file. I'm thinking you have a debit card since it has a daily limit. If it's like mine, it will have a cash limit (atm) and then a POS limit which is normally quite a bit higher, everything that you charge through the ship will be charged under the POS even the casino, it's billed as entertainment. The only time it would be against your cash limit is if you used the atm on board which is pricey.

A little trick that one of the casino guys taught me when I forgot to bring cash for port days was to insert my card into a slot machine, charge to my sign and sale, just make 3 or 4 spins and then cash out to card, then go to the cash cage and cash out, that way there wasn't a fee to get cash. Not the best way to do it but I hate ATM fees so it saved my butt that time.

Hope it helps and enjoy your cruise :)

Thanks Sweetlissa.....I appreciate the advice. That clears things up a bit. I hope u and your hubby have a great cruise. I'm so excited since this will be my first time on a plane or cruise. I'm a little nervous but very excited. I've only seen the ocean once (Mrytle Beach). This will be a trip I never forget.

You're very welcome, I hope you enjoy it greatly and become as addicted as the rest of us. Just know I'm jealous as heck, I haven't been to Half Moon Cay yet but I'll get there one day. Hope you come back to tell us how much you loved your cruise :)

What a great first cruise biggin, I love that ship! To add a bit more info, the first charge on your sign and sail account will be the tips for the staff at 11.50 per day per person, so about $120 if there are two of you sailing. After that what you spend is up to you, only alcohol and shopping, plus any casino play you charge on your S/S account. Your meals are included in your cruise fare so no charges for those. Room service is also included, bring some $1 bills to tip $1-2 to your room service servers, or any extra tips for staff if you wish to tip extra.

On Half Moon, only drinks and shopping are extra cost, there is a bbq lunch provided by the ship on the island that is already paid for, and the most beautiful beach in the world is there:)

We prefer to bring cash for the ports to avoid using the card outside the US, you can figure out what you will be doing/eating onshore/shopping and bring cash for that along with the card only as back-up for unexpected spending.

All the entertainment on board is included, you pay extra for bingo and that's all I can think of...

It's the best vacation ever, welcome to our addiction!:D Please come back and tell us all about it!!

Good ship to start with, my favorite, been on her twice.
If you use a credit card or debit card, there is a "hold" placed on it that will not be removed until a week or two after the cruise, even though your final bill may say it's paid. So, use of your card might be limited after the cruise, if you happen to have a low credit limit. When you board, go to guest services, give them cash in your chosen amount, say $500. That will cover your tips and on board spending without affecting the credit card. If you don't spend it all on board, you will get a check back the last night for your balance. For the casino, I like slots. I put cash into the machines to play, so I don't draw off my account. If you should win, that amount can be cashed out from the receipt you'll get. I like to go a cash system, then no after the cruise expenses, already "paid in full".
