Laundry

So we are going to be Platinum. Does anybody know how much 2-3 bags of laundry actually is?

linalcaplan August 1st, 2012 03:10 PM

Not a heck of a lot in each bag. Try rolling the soiled clothing and squeezing it in-we've gotten so good that our one dirty bag always comes back in two clean bags. EACH Platinum cruiser gets 2-3 bags, depending on the length of the trip. Make sure you put your folio number on 2 or 3 bags and your "roomie's" folio number on the others. Carnival just started something new with Platinum, though. Don't be upset to see a $15 charge for the bag--followed by a $15 credit, this is their way of counting your bags.

My sister and I are both Platinum and rarely send out more than one bag of laundry between the 2 of us......I don't like having my cloths washed in really hot water and harsh detergent........but when we do we roll our cloths and usually get 2 pairs of blue jeans, 3-4 capri's/shorts and 3-4 t-shirts.

Another new rules if there are two people in each cabin is that the 1st persons folio number goes on bags 1-3 and the 2nd persons folio number goes on bags 4-6....apparently if you mix and match one bag from each folio number it screws up the $15 credit you will get for up to 3 bags.

Though it does kind of irk me that even early on when the new VIFP program was announced and there was an uproar about Platinum being limited to 3 bags per person.....the beard that posted a letter online said the "reality" of the program was that they didn't foresee any Platinum member being restricted to just 3 bags.......but was something they needed to put in place for future application.........

Seems like life is slipping away rather quickly..........

They are about 14 inches across by 20 inches.

I added something for scale http://boards.cruisecritic.com/image...es/biggrin.gif

I can fit a lot into one of the bags, but they do tear easily. No problem - I bring packing tape to put an end to that nonsense. What I send out in 1 bag always comes back in 2.

Good idea about the packing tape. I always have to use an extra bag because they tear.

Someone mentioned hot water and harsh detergents. Have you noticed your clothes shrinking or anything?

zydecocruiser August 3rd, 2012 02:16 PM

People have mentioned all kids of things that I haven't experienced. My biggest complaint is that they staple the tops of the bags they are returning closed and occasionally staple clothing to the bag, too. That hasn't happened since I started sending out enough to ensure it comes back in two bags.

hmm... I was wondering, do a lot of people have laundry done on the ship?? that would really cut down on the amount of clothes... If you AREN'T platinum, is it worth the $$$$?

averrette August 3rd, 2012 08:20 PM

I never even thought of doing laundry while on the ship until I realized that with Plantinum we could get some done. Half the fun of the cruise for me anyway is wearing all the different outfits!! Alot of planning goes into "cruise clothes". LOL
But we will surely be getting our laundry done when we become platinum. :)

Another issue about doing laundry is that you don't have to pack too many clothes. It can save you luggage fees if you fly.

If not platinum or above, there is usually a laundry special midweek for $15/bag. It does beat doing your own ($3/wash, $3/dry, $1 detergent, $1 softener + a million dollars for my time), IMO.

IMO, different strokes for different folks ;)! We don't mind taking 2 hours (max) to do laundry either after a visit to a port or on a sea day. We bring our own detergent and softener. We've done the $15.00 bag, but there always seems to be something missing or "shrinking clothes".

It really depends on what's important to you!

True.

I've also seen people and laundry standing in line for a machine to open up. The newer ships have fewer machines for more people so there can be a shortage.

At least on Carnival, you have an option for self-serve laundry. Some cruise lines don't offer.

bulldogsrus August 24th, 2012 07:09 PM

We have always done laundry on the ship. On the last cruise something was in the water or something and stained a load of our whites a yellow color.
