Default Your Thoughts on Carnival Destiny Trans-Atlantic

This summer we sailed the Breeze in the Mediterranean and loved it. We especially love Venice and have been planning on returning for a few days.

Last night I was looking at cruises. Which is normal for me and I found the 18 day transatlantic from Miami to Venice on February 4, 2013. It is one heck of a deal. You can do a balcony for about $1600/two people and an inside for about $1100.

Here are the drawbacks:
This is the "last" cruise of the Carnival Destiny. It is going to the shipyard to be converted into the Funship 2.0 Carnival Sunshine. I'm worried that there will be construction underway during the voyage, staff will be at the end of their contracts and service may be a bit lacking.

Airfare is a bit high: Open jaw from MSP-MIA-VCE-MSP is currently going for around $1650/pp. I'm not sure what the price of cruiseline air is or if it is even offered.

The ports are Malaga, Barcelona, Livorno (Florence), Civatavechhia (Rome), Venice. It's 18 days so there will "a lot" of sea days.

The question I have is: If you have the time and the money would you take this cruise? Even if it may not be "perfect".

Take care,

Mike, I would take that cruise in a heartbeat for that price if I could. I came across that awhile ago and I thought I was hallucinating. I did post the cruise in the specials area. However that may not be current price. Italy has always been a dream of mine and to do it on a cruise would just be the icing on the cake for me.

Default Destiny Transatlantic Deal $499.00

Mike, I found that cruise on Vacationstogo.com for $499.00 for inside cabin.
$849.00 for Balcony. The only part of the cruise is 9 days at sea before 9getting to Spain. Here is thel ink:

I think it would be a great cruise! Then again, we love sea days. I don't think the service will suffer because of it being the last sailing, since the crew will be moving to other ship's.

The only problem we (and you) would have is the price of airfare . It's sad when the airfare is more than the cruise!

Let us know what you decide!

The price of the airfare is what has stopped us from similar cruises. Throw in your concerns about it being Destiny's last cruise before renovation and I'd probably pass on it. But that's just me. After all, how bad can that many days on a cruise ship really be? A bad day cruising always beats a good day working.

Is there anything on a cruise after the renovation? Maybe the return trip will be similar.
