Carnival Dream 2013

This will be a 1st for a few things on cruising for us.....

1) This will be our 1st time on a cruise ship since the fire of 2010 Carnival Splendor.

and

2) We have not taken a cruise out of Florida. I am wondering if there are any suggestions as to when to book our flight out of SFO to MCO?? Right now the prices seems really high.

Also where do you suggest we stay the night before our cruise?? Orlando or closer to the ship terminal?? We have never been to Florida so this area is all new to me.

I'm guessing by the pictures that the Dream is a lovely ship to sail on.

Thanks for any info.

Are you cruising out of Pt. Canaveral? Plenty of places to stay in Orlando if this is the case. It is always nice to come in a day early and pre cruise...What ports will you be visiting on this cruise??

When I cruise out of PC I rent a car from Budget. It's an easy drive out to the port and you don't have to pay mileage, then the Budget people shuttle you to the pier. I do the reverse on the return to MCO.

I always stay at the Best Western, there is a Publix grocery store right across the street for last minute items.

There are several hotels in the area, I've had several friends stay at the Radisson and really enjoyed it.

I don't think there is any good time to book air. I recently delayed booking air from Tulsa to Miami for our January cruise and the overnight delay cost me an additional $125 per ticket.....

When in 2013? I always start to look at air prices at about 5 months before and then keep checking back. I tend to book about 4 months out but I fly during peak times of the year. IF it's an off time for flying you should be able to get a good price. Southwest is a good price guide at least for me.

Southwest is no longer the low price leader. In fact they are often much higher than the majors. You ever notice they never promote cheap fares anymore? Thats because they dont have them. Round trip from SFO to anywhere in Florida can rarely be had for less than $900. Its a complete joke. I wish the airlines were regulated again.

Hello Donna, Yes we are leaving out of Pt Canaveral and we will be going to Costa Maya, Cozumel, Belize and Mohagany Bay. Have you ever been to any of these ports?

Hi Janey, I saw your reply yo my post and was wondering when you rent a car from MCO to PC is there a place to drop it off? Did you stay near the pier and if so how do you get there the day of embarkation?

Hello Briguy,
I see you sailed on the Dream in 2011... how is the ship? We did the Splendor in 2010 when it caught fire and we thought it was pretty ugly compared to the other Carnival ships we have been on.

The Dream was nice. It will be even nice when it comes out of drydock next week I think. Lots of room and new ammenties most ships dont have. You will love it.

Rent a Budget car from MCO, stay overnight wherever you want and drop it off at the Budget place right off the highway in Port Canaveral. They have a bus that will take you to the port just a few minutes away. Done it several times and it works great. Beats the Carnival shuttle and you have your freedom to explore.

Sorry you had to endure the Splendor fire. I was supposed to sail over New years that year but it was still out of service. The credit I received helped pay for the Dream cruise that next summer. Enjoy!

Dream was getting the 2.0 upgrades..I think its actually sailing this weekend.

ccleveland June 22nd, 2013 12:01 AM

so the dream is good to go with the 2.0 features? im wanting to go on septmber 28 for 7 days or october 5 for 7 days. I have no idea where to tay at the day before. Do they allow you to board the ship around 12 or 1 on the day of sail?

Donna June 22nd, 2013 06:46 AM

Yes, you can normally start boarding around noon or so, but the cabin will not be ready until 1:00.

ccleveland June 22nd, 2013 03:20 PM

Awesome. Thank you so much. I was thinking of getting a hotel cruise package where you can park your car at the hotel and the hotel drives you to the port?? IS that really safer than parking at the port where the ship is?

anyone on this thread been on the western or eastern carribbean cruise between September 29 - October 15? How was your trip/ the weather?
