Airport to south beach

We are flying out of MIA at 5:40 PM. After we drop our luggage at the airport is it easy to cab or bus back and forth to South Beach? Carnival has an excursion but it leaves the pier at 8:00 AM and gets you to the airport before noon. Would like to spend more time at the beach. Is this do able? Is doable one word? Is doable even a word? Jimbo

A cab ride from the airport to South Beach will be around $30 each way.

It may be more economical to do a car rental.

I agree that car rental would be smarter for you. Two reasons; as was stated, taxi is going to run you about $35 - $40 each way (with tip), so car rental will normally be cheaper. But the main reason; some airlines do not allow you to check your luggage more than 3 hours prior to your flight. You'll need to check with your airline on their specific policies, but their information may make the decision for you.

MIA has a left luggage dept so you can leave it there for the day then head on out to the beach- Miami International Airport :: Baggage Storage :: Miami-Dade County
There is a bus that will take you to South Beach for $2.35 each -
