Just got back from our cruise on the Liberty. The burgers were hit and miss. It seemed like the quallity was good if there was no long lines but as soon as there were 10+ people waiting for a burger the quallity went way down. The burgers got extra greasy and would barely hold together.
We just returned from a week on Conquest and we loved the new burgers. I dont normally have but one during a week on a cruise and that is usually because the other bars were closed but now that is no longer true. I had the burgers 4 of the 7 days for lunch. They are much better. The "donkey sauce" and the bbq sauce on the "Ringer" is really good. The toppings bar was a pleasant surprise....loved the grilled mushrooms there. It wasn't just me...the other two people in our party loved them also.

As I said, it really sounds like if you are a person who likes big, loaded-style burgers you will especially like them, but if they taste good on the plain side as well then I would also like them.
That is how I like my burgers, plain, a little ketchup and lettuce. Gotta have a toasted bun, though.

I had mine on the Breeze. I thought they were tasty, but way too much fat and greese. They are made from 80%/20% fat meat. And of course way too many calories. But, too many calories are what cruises are for so I had three or four during the ten days.
Smashing hamburgers is the best way to make sure they come out dry.... I was once told by a gourmet restaurant owner the key to grilling great burgers is "don't smash down on them".
But of course that's assuming you are smashing the juice out of them, not just the fat.

I saw them taking burgers off a sheet and placing them on a grill before they opened. No smashing while they cooked them, though they could have smashed them before they cooked them. I was watching them cook them because in the video they showed covering them as they cooked, but did not do this.
I only had one burger in the last 20 carnival cruises, plus all the other cruiselines. For me to have them 3 or 4 days, you know they were a pleasant surprise. I for sure never expected them to be so good.
That doesn't necessarily look like a smasher, unless you really push down on it.
Sometimes thing slike that are used to seal in a piece of meat so the juices don't flow out.
I will say the bare burger looked pretty good to me, red meat (cooked) gets my mouth watering.
But what I really don't much care for are burgers with cheese and especially tons of fried onions. I am guessing I would like one of these if I could have done my way.
But I also KNOW that Holland America has some of the best burgers anywhere with amazing Belgian style French Fries (double fried for extra crispiness). I would probably be perfectly happy with that. The burgers are also fresh and not too sloppy.

This is all very interesting. The wife and I are off on a Carnival cruise the end of Jan and I look forward to giving Guy's burgers a try. He makes them the way I like them, loaded with everything including cheese!!! Life is too short to count calories.
