Never cruised before, taking the grandparents and kids for a last minute trip Feb 17 on Carnival Freedom (W. Caribbean).
Only available side by side balconies were on Upper Deck (6430/6434, port side, aft) so I grabbed them but have since realized, from reviewers here and from closer examining of the deck plans, that we are directly above the "International Lounge" where nightly comedy shows/karaoke/etc take place.
Anyone been in the vicinity? Are we going to be listening to amateur wailing til the wee hours? Heading out to buy earplugs for 6 now!
Any all tips and advice appreciated in this matter.... thanks all!!
When I was on Freedom the lounge seemed pretty empty after 11:00 pm,
I don't think it will be a big deal at all unless your going to bed at 9:00 pm.

We were on the Freedom on our last cruise out of Fort Lauderdale. We were in if I remember 6713 (in a balcony room). It was over the casino and karaoke area. I had no noise issues. However, I will never go balcony again - I was able to book two adjoining ocean view rooms on the Breeze (Miami) we just got back from yesterday for the price of one balcony room for four...it got us four showers (two had tubs) plus all that extra storage space and room to get ready. One thing...if you did not prepay your gratuities, you can change who gets what. My wife's uncle actually zeros his gratuities out and directly tips in cash with that money those who really made the cruise great for them. We zeroed our wait staff this time...the service in the main dining room was abysmal, drinks (iced tea, lemonade, milk) came after we got the main course mostly done, even after complaining to the Maitre D. I finally brought my big plastic cup and a packet of Hawaiian punch and put it on the table the second to the last night...they got the hint then - a waiter from another table actually jumped in and took over. The food was also lousy - pasta all under-cooked, fish and shrimp overcooked (rock hard), our gluten free family member's meals were obviously nuked - crusty on top of the pasta and chicken dried out. Our cabin steward we had was was on his first cruise in charge and he was phenomenal! (he also helped us locate our crying 8 year old who took off on us the first night by accident) He got the bump in gratuities from the others didn't.
