I just don't get the "same problems over and over" as I have not see the same problem...how many fuel leaks have caused fires on their ships? how many emergency generators failed when testing? how many of the same exact mechanical problems have occurred?

Why did I rebook? Since i now have over 90 cruises completed I have faith in the mechanics of all the ships. As I have said before any equipment that have moving parts will, wear out, break, become corossive, and have to be replaced. Good maintenance will keep them running longer. I like Carnival and all the other lines they own. As long as I live I will try to continue cruising.

Carnival said they will increase their
Testing, checking etc to be sure the passengers and crew will be safe. That is exactly what they did in St Maartin.

Nuff said.

I was just watching the news. They were talking to a man from Legend. He was whining that $100 was not enough. He said he would not use the 50% off coupon either as he did not want to sail with Carnival again. I think $100 for a missed port and the 50% on next cruise is a great deal. He bought a 7 day cruise and he got a 7 day cruise. Carnival is covered in the contract for changes in itinerary. He is just looking for a bigger piece of the pie.

It appears that you are over reacting big time. Going back to my car example, a certain brand of car breaks down each day, repairs shops are full of them especially dealers' repair shops. Does that make you want to quit owning or using a certain brand of car? Yes, Carnival seems to be having issues right now. Only one, though, put its passengers out and that was the Triumph.

If you think I was speaking to you as an idiot, that is your problem. I was not doing that, I was covering my choice of vacation travel and will continue to do so.

I will still cruise, but I hope and pray that I don't end up in A Triumph-like situation.

bingo, and worse yet the news media feeds off of idiots like that guy...they don't talk to the other 1900+ people who are not "angry" over it...if we had been on this cruise and all that happened was we missed a port and still had the 7 days of relaxation and food and entertainment and they gave us those pecks, WOW I would have been shocked and became a lifelong cruiser no matter what with them...as it is their doing what their doing has me sold on their customer service...we booked a cruise a couple days ago with them...

When was the last time you got 50% off your car. A car has 5 people tops a cruise ship has 4,000 +. A car breaks down and you get a tow truck and walk away from the car. A cruise ship you need us coast guard, us navy, and tug boats. A car breaks down you get it back in a day or 2 a cruise ship break down and its a week + your car gets old you get a new car carnival ships get old and they put the in smaller ports.

Yeah but you don't hear about it on CNN. And have heard that Regent which I belive is owned NCL. Has had 17 mechicale issues between their 3 ships since the first of the year.

Not sure what state you live in. But here in Massachusetts as well as New York, Florida and Oklahoma, cars are inspected once not twice a year. And the USCG performs saftey inspections on passanger ships (everything from dock mobiles you see in most major cities, up to an including cruise ships) at least yearly. If they are home ported in the US or US flagged then it is done every 6 months.

I would honestly say you should never cruise, fly, or take a bus then from now on and stick to driving around your house since any type or mood of travel things can happen (well except for your car according to you)...last I remember seeing all cruise lines have had ships with problems...reason, they are mechanical....no one is dead or dying in the last 4 or 5 of these...have people been inconvenienced? maybe on the poop cruise, but the others not at all...

Because the NTSB is chartered by Congress to investigate accidents and analyze the data to develop ways to prevent recurrence of the accidents they investigate. They are the forensics lab, not the street cops.

Jason,

There is a threshold that has to be reached for the NTSB to get involved. That agency has 400 employees and can't go rushing off every time a cruise ship has to slow down because of a propulsion issue or something breaks. The key word in their lawful duties is 'accident'. Here's the thing with federal agencies...they are limited by statute as to what they can and cannot do. The NTSB can't just say 'you know, I think we need to start inspecting cruise ships' unless the law says they can. Their primary duty is actually aviation accidents although it was later expanded to other modes of public transportation. The NTSB is not some magical organization that can solve every problem as you seem to think. If they could, then airplanes would have stopped crashing years ago.

As others have noted but apparently you've missed, the Coast Guard IS involved and conducts routine and surprise inspections of cruise ships. All cruise ships sailing from or into U.S. ports have to maintain a Coast Guard certificate of compliance.

Again thank you 4 i know that and yes the ntsb does go 2 small ferry problems in nyc what i saying is if a cruise ship is home port in the us it should not be govern by panama ,bahama as tax payers why do we have to pay 4 the coast gard come rescue the ship and not get our money back. And in car airplanes and all outher mech there something call a recall i know what the ntsb is about you must work 4 carnival as a cruiser i would love 4 the coast guard or a new us govern body 2 look over the saftey of the cruise ships this is not a game

For me a Poop in the Bag cruise is a disaster.....a ship missing ports is an inconvenience....A ship dead in port and have to fly back may be an inconvenience to some and a disaster to others...there are cruisers that love to cruise because they don't fly.

I do agree with JasonNJ's post....cruisers book a cruise and look forward to their cruise and should not have to end early with 50% off the next cruise, missed ports, power lost, etc.

I book a cruise I have a mental picture before hand what my cruise will be like...and surely want my cruise to go as planned. No inconveniences or disasters.

Very well said. I would not want to poop in a bag. Also I have a friend who will not fly.
