I still have 4 future cruise certificates left. I thought (may be wrong) that we used to be able to cash them out for what we paid for them? Now Carnival say's I need to "use or lose it" before they expire. At least if I book before they expire, I can cruise up to 12 months later. Also understand they did away with this program, too bad.
I seem to remember the cash out option when we bought our first certificate. Check the language on the documents they may have changed it at some point.

No, I read all the "very fine" print and they took out the cash out option. Also remember several years ago, they used to be good for 5 years, now it's 2. Guess that means we will have to force ourselves to cruise some more this year.
I think they bet on some of the certificates not being used. At the time when you purchase them, we normally think, oh, for sure I will be able to use them, but things happen and sometimes they go unsed and just $ for the cruiseline.
Donna, I agree with you 100%. Our problem is we cruise with 3 different lines and have these certificates with all of them. The funny thing is, on Princess (owned by Carnival) they are good for 5 years still and they will refund anytime or renew them for another 5 year period. You would think they would keep the policy the same with all there divisions. I bet they sold alot of these during spring break time only to have the buyer lose or forget about them. More money for Carnival

I know when we were on the Conquest in Set 12 we were told that they would not offer them any longer after this cruise, but we were told when they pitched them that 1. they are good for 5 years 2. if you want you can cash them out for the 100 3. they are good for any cruise but can use only on per stateroom...so if I were you I would contact them and inform them their own sales people sell it this way and you don't get the certificate until a day later and that certificate was always supposed to be refundable...

Some that sold the FCC's on the ships didn't fully understand the regulations themselves. They also said they could be used as the deposit...and they can not. I think it's use them or lose them now, it may have been different on the very old ones.

we sent our cert in about 8 days ago and received the certified mail card back that carnival received it...how long does it take for them to process the certificate does anyone know? How will you know if you have an onboard credit like it is supposed to give you?

If you havent paid the trip in full yet, it will show up in the balance due. Then the other will show up on your ship sail and sign account as being a credit.

They seem to be getting on them pretty quick, of late. I've seen a confirmation that they have been applied within a week. One was one day, another two days. Most in about 5 days. Quicker than it used to be.
You could have used the online form...that is probably faster than mailing them.
