Carnival Breeze, issues

Just returned from a wonderful 8 day on the beautiful Breeze. I have to say she is the best in the whole Carnival fleet. Absolutely gorgeous, and a great layout!

I had a few issues though.
1) We booked Carnival transfer service so as to not deal with Miami cab drivers. This driver left a bag on the bus, argued with me about checking under for it, then blamed me "You put it with the other ship's bags." I did not, he took it when we arrived at the bus. He also hasseled us for a tip before I realized my bag wasn't there (I was planning to tip anyway, always do).

2) Went platinum this cruise. SOOOO EXCITED about that! Checked in at the airport, had my card and priority boarding card when arrived at port. Got to terminal upstairs and was told, word for word, "Sorry, we've already boarded those people, you have to wait." Um....

3) I was charged $9.95 for a hurricane glass and then $7.25 to fill it up for my sail away drink. I order a sail away drink in these glasses every year, once a year, and it has NEVER cost me $17.20. When did Carnival start this garbage???

4) The shows were AWFUL. I mean, not bad, but awful. A cast of 7, barely sets, barely costumes, no orchestra, and at one point, the cast was setting up the set (by set, I mean a runway). The Brits show had some decent sets but mostly was a digital guy and girl singing. If I wanted to watch cartoons, I would have stayed in my cabin. The show the last night was the band that played on the promenade every night, and the girl, Consuela, is an amazing singer, but that was all it was. Her singing basically ambient music. They didn't even turn down the house lights for her.

The ship is amazing. I LOVED the Breeze. The issues really put a damper on what a gorgeous ship she is.

I was posting because I am just wondering what other people are seeing on Carnival? It seems like they just keep cutting, and I understand economic times and yada yada, but if they keep cutting corners in places they should not be, I will pick another line. I am a die~hard Carnival fan and am hoping this does not have to happen!

Opinions, other experiences? Thanks!

I also forgot to say about the boarding~this was at 12, and we even had emails telling us not to show up before 1 due to an extended customs inspection.

If you were Platinum there should have been a Platinum, Diamond, FTTF line just for you. This is open at all times. I can understand that the VIP lounge may have been closed but you should still have been able to by pass the lines at check-in. I do believe that sometimes the shore side people really don't know what they are doing.

When we took the Imagination in January one of the agents pointed us toward the special line for Platinum, Diamond and First to the Fun. When we got there the woman said: "You have to get in line with the rest of the people." I did but was not happy. A minute or two later the guy who pointed us to the special line (the boss) saw us and pulled us out of the line and walked us up to the Platinum entrance. The lady who told us to get in the regular line was embarrassed and apologetic but you could see that that she was in trouble with her boss.

I too loved the Breeze. It is my favorite Carnival ship. When I sailed her, in Europe, last summer I enjoyed the shows but they did overuse the graphics but it was an interesting effect.

I have never used Carnival's transfers so I can't comment on that. Did they charge you for the glass and then charge you to put something in it? I heard somewhere that they were getting rid of the souvenir glasses. So I can "understand" why you may have been charged for the glass and the drink but it isn't right. Heck, the souvenir glasses aren't worth $9. I sold a bunch at a garage sale for a quarter. :)

I'm sorry that the issues put somewhat of a damper on your cruise but it does sound like you had an overall good time.

Take care,
Mike

So it sounds like the line thing happens more often than it should. Yes, I was charged $9.95 for the glass and another $7.25 to fill it, total of $17.20. If it hadn't been so crowded I probably would have flipped out. I guess I expected more overall with her being a brand new ship. Our direct service teams and the ship itself were wonderful, so it's not like it was a horrid trip or anything. I just have been so use to so much more from Carnival I was a bit disappointed.

Cruised on Breezed in Dec. and was disappointed mostly because of the entertainment, shows, dance and music. We were bored on most nights.

The ship itself is very nice but the whole cruise experience was a low budget watered down cruise.

Cruisers happy with a very basic cruise will most likely enjoy Breeze.

Our rate was very cheap...so as the old saying goes..... you get what you pay for:twisted:

I have long-time clients who are Diamond members with Carnival and they sailed on the initial transatlantic cruise.

They complained about some of the very same things you mentioned. They had a balcony cabin on Deck 7, two levels above the Promenade Deck in the middle of the ship and they said it was terrible. When sitting on their balcony, all they could hear were people's sneakers squeaking on the deck, people talking loudly, and people in the hot tubs laughing till all hours. They said they never had a quiet time on their balcony and it was something they had never had any problems with before, but this new design with the Promenade Deck extended is causing alot of complaints. Plus, this design is also causing the balconies to not be as large as on other ships, so they weren't happy about that either. We've heard the exact same complaints form people on the NCL Breakaway as it's the same type of design.

So if you want a balcony on these types of ships, just make sure you get them up around deck 8 and notice where you are in relation to where the hot tubs are!

Just came back from the Breeze.. Wasn't too happy either. We had a balcony cabin on 6 and we could not enjoy must privacy on the balcony as the glass is not tinted enough and deck 5 can literally look into your room from the railing.

I like the re-design but I thought they just plopped new stuff in old places for instances; the trees and umbrellas in the eating areas simply take up space meaning, you have to walk around false trees and duck down so umbrellas don't bang you in the head.

We only did the comedy shows so I can't comment on the others however I'm not a fan of these new dining rooms without a grand staircase that connects the 3 levels of dining.
