Default Carnival spends $300M to erase 'poop cruise' debacle

Carnival spends $300M to erase 'poop cruise' debacle
The cruise line is investing to upgrade every ship in its fleet, hoping to burnish its post-Triumph image.

You can twist a story and create a headline to sell an article I guess. This is the job of most media and why I have little respect for them.

The truth is Carnival had created FunShip 2.0 and released a schedule to upgrade several ships over the next several years BEFORE the "Poop" cruise ever happened. The TRUTH is that the rates have likely fallen though because of the "Poop" cruise and a few other issues they have had. Works for me, I will take my quarterly $0.25 dividend (2.95% per year), current 8.39% profit on the stock, $100 shareholder shipboard credit on every cruise I take (7-13 days), AND the new lower rates.

Nothing is perfect. If people got back on planes after the 9/11 tragedy, I see no reason why the cruise industry will not return over time.

Isn't this an old story? The Funship 2.0 program has nothing to do with the Triumph fire. But Didn't Carnival announce a multi-million dollar upgrade to engine and safety upgrades?

What was I thinking? I must have skimmed that article and had Funship 2.0 on the brain. Somehow I perceived the article as saying that Carnival was spending money on the Funship upgrades to entice customers back after the Triumph incident.

You're right green_rd, this is OLD news. Actually, when the Triumph incident itself happened, media was all over this "Bad News" IIRC I either received an email from Carnival, or, read a Carnival article posted here only a few weeks after the Triumph incident stating the 300M investment mentioned above. Maybe this "Good" news is only making it's way to the media now. IIRC, some, if not all of this 300M has already been spent and the upgrades are either completed, or very close?

"I don't want to go through that again, and I don't want our guests to go through that," Gerry Cahill, the chief executive of the Carnival Cruise Lines unit, told the Times of the Triumph disaster, which led to overflowing toilets and food shortages.
Just think how much better off Carnival would be if Carnival had done this BEFORE it because fodder for late night comedians' jokes.

Yes, it's certainly important to know the stock price when your ship catches fire and alarms are being overridden.

Default .

I doubled down after the Costa incident and sold 1/2 a few weeks later when the stock price returned close to where it was before the incident.

I will always hold at least 100 shares and buy and sell some when need be.
