You do not get the cloth type at check in. If you want those you purchase in shop on ship. In casino you get a curly, stretchy type that you clip on your clothes or purse or whatever so you can put into machine and not forget.
We just bought a bunch for a large group of families at '5 Below' for $2 each. While the cruise line doesn't provide them for free, you can get them really cheap before you go. Then when you're doing your check-in at the pier, ask them to punch a hole in your sail-n-sign card, which they'll do, so you can use your lanyard.
But talk to your agent, they may have some to give you for free.
