Carnival Announces "Carnival Live" Entertainment

Carnival just announced that they will be featuring headline acts at various ports. Guests on board will have the opportunity to see these acts live on board their cruise. The shows will be in the main theater and there is a charge: "Tickets cost $20-40 each and a limited number of VIP tickets are also available for each show for $100-$150 each. The VIP experience includes an artist meet and greet, photo opportunity, seating in the first three rows and a commemorative laminated concert pass."

Currently the concerts will be on various ships and in these ports: Cozumel, Mexico; Nassau, the Bahamas; and Catalina Island, California.

Here is a list of acts that are currently contracted.

Chicago
Daughtry
Foreigner
Gavin DeGraw
Jennifer Hudson
Jewel
Kansas
Lady Antebellum
LeAnn Rimes
Martina McBride
Olivia Newton-John
REO Speedwagon
STYX

While the line up is really good, you won't find me at any of them.

Mike M January 22nd, 2014 05:55 PM

I'd pay $40 to see Daughtry, Lady Antebellum, Jennifer Hudson, Chicago or Styx.

I know it's an additional charge but worth it at those prices and in a smaller venue like a cruise ship show lounge.

I do wonder if the cruises that will feature these acts will sell at a higher price than those without the acts. I wouldn't be happy to pay an increased cost because Leanne Rimes was performing and I had no intention of seeing her.

Take care,
Mike

I agree with you Mike. I think $40 is about tops for me to see any act. On one cruise (Norwegian) we saw Eddie Holman and even though there was no charge I think I would have paid something extra to see his performance.

Aerogirl January 22nd, 2014 06:08 PM

I'm waiting to see them add Aerosmith or just even Steven Tyler ...VIP for me!

Interesting, but not sure I would pay over $40 for any of them....time will tell how this will work out or not??

Trip January 22nd, 2014 11:59 PM

Most of the line up does not interest me at all, but for those who would enjoy this, it's a bonus.

Aerogirl January 23rd, 2014 12:58 AM

Foreigner would be pretty fun. I seen them in concert in 2011 and was really shocked at how good they were.....one of my top 5 ever seen concerts and I've been to many.

Manuel January 23rd, 2014 01:15 AM

Paying extra for shows, paying extra for dinner.

Cruising has changed a lot in the last couple of decades.

If you are interested I'd book now as cruise prices on these sailings will go up.

rollerdonna January 23rd, 2014 09:07 AM

Maybe I'm cynical, or maybe I'm just cheap (read: poor), but I will NOT be paying for extra entertainment on board. Just another way to get money out of cruise passengers. Some of us have to scrimp and save a long time to be able to cruise, and can't afford the extras.
Not to mention that not one single one of the "line-up" interests me.

Aerogirl January 23rd, 2014 11:02 AM

At least its not an every cruise thing...no big deal.

aerospace January 23rd, 2014 11:48 AM

I don't like that it's on the port days which is one of the main reasons people cruise.

If they did it at say 1pm on embarkation day and gave those attending boarding priority at 11am I would be more likely to attend. Then you kick off your cruise with a bang rather than not be able to do a tour in Mexico because the concert. Also it seems it would be cheaper/easier to fly in guest entertainers to US ports saving a bit for Carnival.

Right?

The technology exists today, that when I order CD/downloads from Amazon for my favorite artists, a "pop up" will tell me that I can see perform and hang out with that artist on a specific Carnival ship on a specific sailing. If I press the Carnival link on my Amazon check out page it will allow me to book a cabin, before I complete my Amazon order. If I am into social media big time, a twitter alert will go out to all my "friends" inviting them to join me on my Carnival cruise to party with my favorite artist

I would not be surprised in the least, in the very near future for Carnival to announce a partnership with Amazon in this area

Truck Cruiser January 25th, 2014 07:05 AM

Great line up but I think the prices of these 3-4 day cruises are way too high.

Supply and demand. In the future perhaps added to more ships and even more bands, but I certainly don't think every cruse, every ship.

Personally, I wonder if Carnival will step up and enforce drug use policy.

Funny.. I would think with all these old bands it would bring a lot of the old the pot heads LOL

I "sort" of remember seeing REO Speedwagon back in 1978. :) ;)

Take care,

I have to agree with posters that aren't interested in these special live shows. I actually didn't find any of the acts I would especially want to see. If they were part of the entertainment, I'm sure I would attend, but for an extra $20? Nope. Kansas will be playing on my April cruise on the Fascination, but I think I'll pass.

It IS great for big fans, though. $100 for VIP to meet a band you love? Cool. Now, if you put Jimmy Buffett on the line up? That's another story!!

rollerdonna January 25th, 2014 10:23 PM

Jimmy Buffet and Barry Gibb? I might reconsider!

My wife and I along with four friends are booked to cruise on the Fascination in September. We choose this cruise to see Kansas. I am looking forward to the cruise and the concert.
For those of you that don't want to go to the concert as least say thanks to us that pay for the tickets and help keep the total cost of the cruise down for you.

I do think that setting up venues for extra fee for those that want them will in the end help to keep the cost down for all of us and revenue up for Carnival, and that is OK by me.

Wouldn't the small fee you pay for the concert go towards paying for the entertainment?

Even if you pay for the concert ($20) the more of you guys that book the higher the cruise prices go due to the ship selling out faster, which I think that is what CCL had in mind.

Bill
