Default iPad connectivity

I've never taken my laptop on a cruise, but since I do pop on the internet a few times while I'm cruising, I am considering taking my iPad. I assume I will still have to buy an internet package, and that the rates are the same.

In the past I've used the internet cafe, but thought that sending a lovely pic of a sunset on the water might be a LOT more fun if sent while I was sitting on my balcony.

How about connection? Is it just as good in your stateroom as in the cafe? Does anyone know the current rate plan?

Thanks!

On most Carnival ships you will have decent connectivity in your stateroom. You will need to pay by the minute or buy a package. You will connect the same way you do at any hotel or other pay for Internet venue. You will select your package or "pay by the minute" when you connect and bring up your browser.

Just remember your password and to "logoff" when you are done.

I suggest buying a package of multiple minutes. It is less expensive than paying by the minute.

Take care,
Mike

I haven't taken a laptop on a cruise for almost 4 years, instead just using my iPad. I caused a bit of a stir on the Elation in 2010 when I used my iPad at one of the bars. The staff had not seen one yet and I was one of the first iPad owners. It worked perfectly and so I have used it ever since as my cruise computer.

I use the iPad camera for photos and post them to this forum, Facebook, Twitter, etc., along with comments. It is really superior to a laptop for those applications, but then I also have a hardshell case that also has a standard keyboard inside that I use for typing so it then becomes more like a laptop for sending e-mails or posting on the internet.

The computer in the Internet cafe are hard wired. The connection will be a little faster than the wifi. Though I have never been particularly dissatisfied with the wifi. I prefer to "tune out" when on vacation so haven't been on loping at sea in a couple of years.

Be care to set your iPad in airplane mode if you have a 4G device. Otherwise you might be
sucking down expensive cellular minutes. I also shut off my podcast subscriptions while I am away. I didn't want those downloads slowing my browsing.
