We will be taking a cruise on Infinty to Alaska in May. We live in the Nothwest so we will be driving up to Vancouver the day before departure. This makes it mush easier to lug around all of the bags. Any suggestions on a hotel to stay before and after the cruise to do sightseeing in Vancouver. Was wondering also if any hotels would allow us to leave our car there for the week or if there is secure parking by the port.
We're sailing the INFINITY from San Francisco the first week in May, so you're probably getting on when we're getting off. We have sailed Alaska twice before and have friends that live in Bellingham who take us to the port on sailing day. Be sure and drive through Stanley Park in Vancouver and look at the totem poles - they will help you get in the Alaska mood. Also, there is a vista point near the Lions Gate Bridge that has great views. Go there first and take in the sights because you will sail under the Lions Gate Bridge on your way out and it's fun to see where you were while watching everyone else sail out. There is a very secure parking building right at the port but I do not know what the current parking fees are. You drive through, drop off your bags with the cruise line porters, and then go park your car and head back to check in. Believe me, you are going to have the time of your life in Alaska. Say, are you interested in swapping your cruise tickets for a used '75 Chevy (chuckle, chuckle)? Have a great time !!!!!!
If you'll be sailing from Canada Place, there is very secure parking right there. If you're sailing from Ballantyne, the suggestion is to leave your car at Canada Place and cab it to Ballantyne as it's a rather seedy neighborhood. We stayed at the pan Pacific Hotel which is right at Canada Place. We requested a room overlooking the Lion's Gate Bridge and got up very early in the morning on the day of sailing and watched all the cruise ships coming in. It's kind of fun to have the bellman at the hotel take you to the pier.
I didn't realize there was another cruise ship arrival/departure location in Vancouver. Does Celebrity usually arrive/depart from Ballantyne or Canada Place? Our previous two cruises were on Princess and RCI respectivly and both departed from Canada Place. We also saw HAL there both times. Is there any way of finding out which location our ship will dock at? Many thanks.
Thanks everyone for the information! Looking at the driving directions on Celebrity's web site, they point to Canada Place. So I am guessing that the boat will dock at Canada Place. As long as the parking seems secure we will probably stay at the Hyatt Regency and then park at Canada Place. Thanks Again!
Port of Vancouver has a website which will tell you which ships dock at Canada Place and which at Ballantyne Pier, week by week. When we sailed to Vancouver from Seward on Dawn Princess two years ago, she docked at Ballantyne Pier. Cruiseline took us on an abbreviated city tour before dropping us off at Pan Pacific hotel for the rest of our stay. Our second visit to Vancouver and we can't wait to go again.
Just fyi, the Hyatt Regency is approximately a 3 1/2 block walk from Canada Place. There are two hotels that are right at Canada Place, the Pan Pacific, which is actually attached to it, and the Fairmont Canadian Pacific Waterfront Hotel, which is directly across the street from Canada Place. All three hotels are good properties, but if I had my choice, I would stay at either the Pan Pacific or the Waterfront.
